Page7 Request for Taxi Stand Denied On a c o mm ittee recommendation, a req uest f rom Speedy Taxi to have a s t an d on Dundas Street West in front of their office has been denied. Followingareview of existing park- ing on Dundas Street West from Brock Street to Centre Street, it was not felt by the town public works department that there is sufficient room between the 'no parking here to corner' sign and the dr iveway to provide a legal parking spot. Ai1though a request has not been rece ived f rom Bell Taxi, the public w o r k s d e p artment felt that if Speedy Tax i were granted a stand, Bell Taxi would no doubt be applying, and if this was the case, in order to provide them a s t a n d b e tween Brock and Byron, a parking meter would have to be removed from Dundas Street West. W. C, l.y off for An open letter to the Mayor and Members of Council of The Town of Whitby Gentlemen: Once again tenders have been called for the new Police building and for the new municipal building. Once again tenders stipulate the Rossland Road site. The Whitby Citizens Study Group has brought to your attention the question in the minds of a number of Taxpayers as to the necessity of a municipal com- plex. We have brought to your attention al ter native proposal s which we feel deserve consideration. We again ask: 1. Why move to Rossi and Road, a piece of unserviced land.? 2. Are there not much less expensive Serviced sites available for the police building in the old Town? 3. Cannot the present site for our municipal offices be expanded to handle any required room for Ad- ministrative services? 4. Are the Citizens of Whitbybehind the complex? 5. We ask that no tenders be accepted and a hait be called to expansion to Rossland Road. Whitby Citizens Study Group r ~jv eeuffF
