Planning Office to hold open house The Townof WhitbyPlanning Board, in conjunction with the Whitby Historical Association, is looking into the possibility of preserving some of the more historically significant build- ings in the county town. "Ilt's a very difficul t job, " explained Planning Director Dr. Mofeed Michael, "as we have no set policy to f o l low regarding historic properties owned by private owners. " "The Ontario Ladies' College will probably go along w i th our plans as w i I I the churches, however we are not yet certain how adaptable private buildings will fit our scheme. " For the moment says the planner, the W h itby Archives is preparing a list of buildings of historic interest. "The number of buildings, obvious- ly, will determine the treatment. For instance dealingwith 200 buildings will differ from dealing with only ten of them. I" The question of the town preserv- ing historic buildings will be brought up at the planning office Open House to be held this Frid ay between 7 and 9 p. m. an d Saturday between 9 and I 2 noon, when all projects, reports and plans will be pinned on the wall and discussed in everyday terms. "Pl anning i s a p u b lic participant thing, " says Dr. Michael, "you can't force something on people they don't want. I
