Paqe 4. Thursday, June 22, 1972, WHITBY FREE PRESS BIRD'*S EYE VIEW J/M OUfA IL AAUUUOHHfoe!l I t 1 s getting ta me faithful readers, )lm goi ngover the edge. And neyer mi d t he comments fram a few of you that 1 went over the edge years ago. As 1 previausiy men tioned, 1 fondly look back ta th e days when 1 sat in my quiet study, watching a favourite tele- v i sion pragram and wrote my col umn each week. Oh for those days again! The tel ephone sel dom rang, i rate citizensdidnat drap in to hang me from ihe chandeliers, and some days 1 act- ua1 1y knew whatI1wa s gaiflgtowrite ab o ut before 1 s at down ta the type- writer. In my young and innocent days 1 thought that writing a column for a newspaper was just great. W/hy it was aîrnost easy! Boy h a ve things changed! 1It keeps me busy these days just charging around Iooking for non-existantmice. In school theynever mentioned mice. 1 remember we talked about the proper wvay ta write anews stary lead and what you can and can't say in a news s tory. WVe alsa, talked about h ow ta des ign an ad sa it 1Iooked pîeasîng to the eye and how to take n ew sp aper pictures, but 1 sure don' t remember anything about mice. 4e* lt coul1d bel1w as sick that day or maybe 1 w as playing hooky out skiing, b ut 1 d onit remember even mentianing anything, about rescuing the editor and the secretary from viciousý mice. Ilm beginning to suspect that we are the only newspaper in Canada that has thi s part- icular problem. Wh en it's time to write my calumn e v ery w ee kn ow 1ican't seem toget s t arted. I usual ly get as far as typing my nameaon the page and somebody yell1s for me to hel p out wî th an ad. Af ter that prablem is straightened out the editor w an t s t o know about a story and the p ub 1i s her wants pictures - and 1 just can't take it any more. 1 q u i e t 1 y explain ta the staff that 1 can 't s it dowvn and wvr ite a col1umn abou t nothing. Just look at Iast week, 1 didn't even get time to wvrite a column. 1 donft think that's fair to ai l the readers who have suffered through ail of my babbling hoping 1 w i 1 l eventualiy get better and then finding out 1 don' thave time ta wNrite a calumn. 1 wauld like ta think about what l'm goiig to wr ite two o.r three days bef ore 1 have ta type it but [lm afraid it anIy goes as far as the theoretical part be- cause 1 sure donit get much time for anything these days. 1 remember tel 1 ing pe op 1le that once 1 got out of school 1 would have more time ta get around ta visit my friends. 0f course 1 didn't get more time but Iess, and now my friends think 1 lm snubbing them. 1I wonder if 1 c a n get back at school ? 1t would sure be a heck af a lot quieter and I'd get some time off. So wîith this hectic pace and things goi ng so badIy, 1 dont knowwvhat 11m going tao wri te about thi sweek.
