It marked DO'C's first win in five years. Participating schools were Denis 0'Conner H'S. (Whitby) Oshawa Catholic, and St. Jo- sephs High School (Barrie). Paced by a particularly st- rong effort by their junior teani, Denis O'Connor amassed a total of 347 points to Osh- awa Catholîcs 325 and St. Joe's 96. St. Joseph's, a junior high school, entered competition only in the m idget and junior divisions, but fared well as two of their students won individual trophies. Team trophies were awa- rded on a divisional basis with the midget trophy goîng to Oshawa Catholic, while Denis O'Connor received both the junior and senior division trophies. Winners of Outstanding ind- ividual awards: Midget Boys-Rene Scott (St. Joes). Midget Girls--Elena McKendly (St. Joes). Junior Boys-Ken Reilly(DO'C) Junior Giris--Monica McPhee (DOTC) Lynn Belton (O.C.H.S.). Senior Boys-Larry Hopkins (O.C.H.S.). Senior Girîs-Rietta Vandyk (DO'C). Final Teani Standings: Denis O'Connor midgets scor- ed a total of 87 points, juniors 136 points and seniors 124 points for a total of 347 points. Oshawa Catholic Hgh School midgets scored a total of 105 points, juniors 98 points and seniors 122 points for a total of 325 points. St. Joseph midgets scored 69 points, juniors 26 points and seniors scored I point for a total of 96 points. BROOKLIN REDMEN LOSE TO BRAMPTON Redmen veterans Glen Lotton and Ken Green played their first game of the season adding scoring punch to the Brooîkin Iineup, but were unable to corne up with a win. Brooklin ineup, but were unable to corne up witb a win. It was a fast, wide open game with Brooklin showing that they can be competitive in this league. At the end of the first period. Brooklin and Brampton were tied with 2 goals each. The end of the second had Brooklîn abead of Brampton 7-6. But tbe tide turned and Brampton wound up defeating Brookîin 15-13, despite the fact that Pat Kelly played an outstanding gamne, minding the Brooklin goal. Brooklin scorers were: Glen Lotton 4, Ken Green 2, Ken Down I (+4 assists), John Cuthbert 1 (+3 assists). Mike Lewis 1, John Anderson 1, Paul Parnell 1, Larry Shrigley -1, and John Poole 1, for a total score of 13 points. Brampton scorers were: Brian Robinson 5 (+5 assists), Mike O'Brien 3 (+3 assists), Tony Golian 1, Brian Bowman 1, Steve Mastine 1 (+6 assists), Bram Wilfong 1, Terry Mastine 1, Terry Williams 1, and Steve White 1, for a total score of 15 points. The next game for the Redmen is against the Toronto Shooting Stars at Toronto on Tuesday night. Next Saturday (lune 9), at 8:30 p.m., , Brooklin plays host to the league Ieading Brantford Warriors. The day, officially proclaimed Minor Basebaîl Day in The Town of Whitby by the Mayor and Council, got under- way with a parade of the W.M.B.A. players from Kinsmen Park tbrough the downtown business section led by the Whitby Brass Band to Peel Park. At the park the ceremnonies opened with Gordie Muschett and Paul Neuman raising the Canadian Flag on the standard to the accompan- inient of a drum roll (rom the band. Participating in the ceremony were Reeve Tom Edwards representing the Mayor, Chief of the Whitby Police Department, Wm. Pilkington, Gerry Gellete, the Whitby Recreation Director and the president of the W.M.B.A., Gordon Hanna. For the "*first pitch" of the season the Recreation Director donned the catching gear, and the Police Chief went to the mound as he bas done each year since the W.M.B.A. was organized. After a few warmn up pitches to show the large crowd of boys and parents on hand that bis arm was as sound as ever, Reeve Edwards went into the batters box to bit the first bail of the season. The chief had to cati on bis old stamina because the Reeve took a lot of pitcbes before be finally popped one down the third base line. In the afternoon, boys in the W.M.B.A. Tee-Bal, Tyke, and Pee-Wee leagues played a series of exhibition games. la E.O.B.A. play the Canadian Tire Midgets started off their season on the right foot, winning a 9-5 decision over Belleville in a game which featured some fine pitcbing by Whitby rigbt -bander John Turner. In picking up the victory Turner gave up only two bits and put thirteen Belleville batters away via the strikeout routes. Armand Robitaille had a big night at the plate for Whitby with four bits, while Dave Sorichetti picked up three. Dave Wall added a pair while Steve Sarginson, Mike Rowley, Kevin Roche, John Turner and Dave Parish picked Up singles. In their first meeting of the season with the Oshawa Legionaires the Canadian Tire club came out on the short end of the 7-3 score in the game at Oshawa's Kinsmen Stadium. Hitters for Whitby in the losing cause were Steve Sarginson who led the way with a pair of safeties while Dave Wall, Armand Robitaille, Dave Soni- chetti, Dave Panish and Dave Allen added to the Whitby attack. Steve Sarginson got the nod as the pitcher in the third game of the season for the Canadian Tire club and came up a winner in the game against Port Hope won by the Tîremen 14-7. Whitby's southpaw gave up t- hree bits and struck out 13. Hitting for Whitby were Dave Sorichetti and Dave Parish each with a double and a single, while Dave Wall, Steve Sarginson, Armand Robin- taille picked up the other safeties. 'Me Lasco Steelers came up with a pair of victories to extend their season mark to 3-0. Tbey completely outclassed Port Hope 21-4 at E.A. Fairmnan for their second triumph. in a gamne which was neyer ini doubt. Cam. O'Donnell, making his first start as a pitcher at the E.O.B.A. level camne up with a steady effort, giving up four hits and striking out eighit and was neyer in trouble, keeping ahead of the batters most of the nigbt. His mates unleashed a 19 bit attack against four Port Hope Hurlers. Leading the hiitting attack were O'Doniîell himself with three singles along with Roly Barlow who picked up a pair of singles and a double, Dave Perry with three singles. Ian Gillis with a pair, Steve Tutton with a pair and Doug Shearer, Brian Kehoe, Dave McWhirter. J- ohn Heffer and Danny Deziwich witb singles. On Saturday in their second home appearance of the season the Steelers survived a shaky first inning ini which they kicked the bail arouind and gave the Oshawa Legion- aires a short ived lead 4-0. In the second, Wbitby come up witli three runs and ini the third added three more to go out ini front 6-4. They added a single in the fourth for a 7-4 margin, the score mntil the eigbth when Osbiawa coun- tered with a single tally to inake it 7-5 whicli was the final score.
