Eng., Director of Public Works SOCCER The Council of the Town of Whitby made it possible to send one of the Whitby Pee Wee teams to Longueuil for a return match. The Whitby teams lost at the County Town Carnival due to the fact that some boys p- layed up to five games during the tournament. This time under the coaching of Geor- ge Borg who has done an excellent job with the help of his two brothers, the team won, Archie Craig, vice - president of Whitby Minor Soccer Association and Gerry Gelette, director of the Whit- by Recreation Department helped organize the bus trip to Longueuil. The right winger, Rick Borg, scored one goal in each game. Alan Razey scored the second. David Wilcox scored a single in the Sunday game, which made both gam- es a 2 - 0 victory for Whitby. The shutout goalie was Gary Agnew. PARA PAINTS - BENJAMIN MOORE PAINTS FULL SELECTION - SUNWORTHY WALL COVERINGS LARGE SELECTION - VINYL CUSHION FLOORING ALL MERCHANDISE - 10 % OFF with this ad. MR. REC ROOM Whitby Mail Phone 728 - 2762 Fastbail News The Whitby Canadian Ti- remen took it on the chin in the opening game of their O.A.S.A. playdowns in Cob- ourg on Thursday night by the tune of 5 - 2. This was the first game of a best of three series with the second game slated for Whitby Tues- day night. Cobourg scored single runs in the second, third and four- th innings and put the game away with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Harry Livingston, the clas- sy left feilder of the Cobourg club led the attack with a perfect four for four, al singles. Pitcher AI Fenton aided his own cause with a pair of hits including a bases empty home - run in the four- th inning. Second sacker Ed Smith hï 1 two hits in four tries. John Vesters led the hitti- gn attack for the Tiremen with a pair of singles in four tries. Jim Spiers, Stu Higham and losing pitcher Ken May each had singles for Whitby. The Tiremen scored one run in the second on three hits and the same in the third inning. From there on in Fenton had a rather easy time as the Whit- by bats were dead with Vest- ers getting a single in the 6th for the final Whitby hit. We chatted with the team manager Jack Townson and he was very disappointed and felt his team got off to a good start picking up six hits and a pair of runs in the first three innings but then they just went sour. He said that Higham looked real good in relief of May on the mound and was con- sidering starting Higham on Tuesday night. DAte and place for the third game if needed has not been decided at the time of writing. LAGROSSE In the girls league of Gar- another game Local 222 beat rard Road Minor Lacrosse Dodd & Souter 6 - 4.
