AJAX GOUNCIL BRIEFS Mayor C.A. Mason officially welcomed David Low as the new Administrator of the Town of Ajax at the first meeting of the Ajax Council followiQig the recent electionsi for the Region of Durham representatives. Mr. Low came to Ajax about two weeks ago froni Fer- gus to take over his new duties. Deputy-reeve Mary Reid asked the Council to lOOk into the feasability of having cy.'ling paths designated in the Town of Ajax. "Other municipalities are providing cycling path locations; I don't see. why Ajax can'lt--- designate certain streets in the Town as cycling routes for those who can cycle and enjoy this form of recreation." The Council agreed'to have the Committee look into the suggestion. The Ajax Council appoii. î.-e following Colin A. Mackie, Reeve K.D. Trebilcock, Jim Smith and Hugh' Irvine to the be Building Committee members. They were authorized by a by-law to be the Committee for the construction of a Community Centre and supplemental facilities. The Town- Council also passed two by-laws authorizing the execution of Quit Caùn Deeds in two sections of the' Town. This means that the, Town has given up a land which is Town property and is being used for other purposes." The Engineering and Works Department Report included the following information; Parks and Properties: A General cleanup was undertaken around the Comm- unîty Centre, Centennial Road Area and in the vicinity of the Water Plant. Three dead trees were removed froni Cedar Park, picnic tables have been stored for the season and the basebaîl diamonds at Cedar Park were given "a final dressing." AIl park and green belt areas received a Faîl application of week control spray. An inventory of dead trees on both public and private property was undertaken throughout the Town of Ajax and inclInding Pickering Beach and Pickering Village areas in preparation for a Winter Works tree removal program. New sub-drains were installed in the Works Department yard and the sanitary pump at the. Day Care Centre was repaired. The Community Services reported that municipal equip- ment was rented to local industries for property improve- ments.
