Tbis was the sentiment expounded by Whitby Police Detective Anthony Wozniak at a recent Whitby Lions Club banquet meeting. The detective, guest speaker for the occasion, stressed the need for constant vigilance on the part of everyone, particularly parents of public school children. Detective Wozniak said he was greatly concerned about the threat to the children who were not aware of the dangers involved with drug addiction. The guest speaker said parents were not ta king the danger in a serious enough manner. On many occasions, parents were shocked to know the police had come to investigate or search their homes. In too many instances the police find marijuana plants growing in the basement of homes. Tue plant resembie an ordinary tomato plant, the detectîve explained. "It doesn't have tomatoes growing on it however and it's pretty deadly", he said. "Parents just can't accept the fact their children could be growing "grass"~, he said. -Tihe leaves and flowers are used for smoking.
