R E-El R 10 CENTS Regional council recently passed a motion to keep the Regional Headquarters located at the County Court House on Rossland Road in Whitby. Whitby's Regional Councillor Gerry Emm moved that the recommendation of the executive committee "that the headquarters of the Regional Municipality of Durham be located at the County of Ontario Court House..." be accepted. Alec Robertson of Pickering seconded the motion kick- ing off a long debate on this subject. Oshawa Mayor Potticary said that a better location S would be the new Bank of Nova Scotia building presently under construction in Oshawa. Coun. Emm pointed out that there would flot be any parking. Coun. Goodwin said that parking would only be available at a charge of $2.50 per car per week in the new parking garage or the Region would have to rent parking space which would he an add- ' itional expense to the Region. Potticary said the Oshawa site wouldn't be any more ' expensive as the County Building could be sold and used for other purposes such as "a Motor Hotel". Presently the Provincial Court is using one-third of the County Building but their lease expires in 1974 and would be re-negotiated at that time with the Region. A vote on the motion was taken and passed with two of the Oshawa representatives supporting the Whitby site.' Whitby Mayor Des Newman was sick and unable to attend > due to being confined to bed with a back ailment. A debate on the subject of hiring regional employees camie up recently at Regional Council. Several suiggestîins came forward incliiding retaining a firin of Personnel Consultants to assist in the preparation of recommendations to council of the outstanding personnel This motion by Regional Councillor John Goodwin was put to a vote and defeated with the result being that the executive committee wvas instructed to re-advertise for a personnel commnissioner even thoughi works Chairman Alan Dewar, and Gerry Emm voiced their concern that time was running short and'present municipal employees who would be affected by the region were anxious to know their 4position whether municipal or regional as of the first of January.
