CIRCLE TAXI 128 BROCK ST. N. WHITBY, ONýT. 24 HRS. Vol. 4, No. 2 F AM L Y R ESTAURANTrS WHITBY â& OSHAW/A WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1974,10 CENTS si I9CTEDI Thie old Whitby Police Force, now a division of the Durhaîn Regional Po- lice Force, although only under the new structure for 17 days is already feeling the brunt of reg- ionalism. Whitby Chief Win. Pil- kington has resigned. In- spector Fred Baker bas been demoted to Sargeant. And last, but îîot least, Sam bas- been evicted. Sain is the littie black cat who used to be the Whitby Police station mas- COt. Sami's naine was even posted' on the personnel board along with the na- mes of the rest of the Whitby Staff. He was fed and loved by memnbers of the Whitby Staff. Loved so, much that the staff chipped in $1 00. about-a month ago to have a pin put in his fractured leg rather than lose the cat. But regionalisin moved in and Sam had to miove out. An ex-Oshawa-Sargeant, now an Inspector, said that Samn had to ",,ýbe re- moved forth with". Sam was now apparently dam- aging the furniture ... on three good legs. The custorn of police stations keeping cats dates back to the timne when police stations had adjoin- ing stables and the cats were, kept to chase tbe mice. Many Toronto stat- ions still maintain the tra- dition.
