COBOURG 3 The B.W. C.B.C. Midget Ail Stars picked up the zone championship last week dumping Lindsay Legionnaires two straight games, to take the best of 5 series, 3 games to 1. Game I was taken by the C.B.C. boys only to have the Legionnaires take the second game in overtime to tie the series at 1 game each. Game 3 was played in Brooklin on Feb. 25th with the hometown boys winning a close 4 to 3 decision. The opening period was scoreless, but the Legionnaires opened the scoring early in the second, only to have the C.B.C.'s corne back and tie it up. Lindsay scored again late in the second frame for a 2 to I lead at the end of 2 periods of play. B.W. tied the game early in the 3rd. The Legionnaires slipped another one past goalie Ken Colby to take the lead, but the C.B.C. gang played their own game and fired 2 answered goals to give them the victory and a 2 to 1 lead in the series. Tim Brown bulged the twines twice for the C.B.C. squad with singles going to Dave Allen and Dan Jordan. Jim De Mille and Glenn Kinzie each picked up 2 assists in a winning cause. Al of Legionnaires scoring was handled by Jim Coombs. Murray Ray and Pete Sabovitch had 2 assists each for Lindsay. In winning the 4th game of the series in Lindsay on March 2nd, the C.B.C. team was never behind, taking an early 2 to 0 lead, only to have Lindsay corne storming back to the attack and tie the score before the end of the first period. In a fast and furious second frame the C.B.C. boys outscored the Legionnaires 2 to I. The only goal of the 3rd period was of the power play variety scored by B.W. Team captain Mike Rowley scored 2 big ones for the C.B.C. squad, with singles being notched by Jim De Mille, Tom Foster and Dan Jordan. Hard working Bryce Jordan had 3 helpers in this game. As in previous games Jim Coombs led the Legionnaires with 2 markers to go with a single by Phil Murtha. B.W. goaler Paul Ravary was given good protection by his defence for most of the game but still had to corne up 3 key saves to help preserve the victory. The turning point in the game was late in the second frame with the Legionn- aires pressing, Jim Coombs was forced offside and upset by B.W.'s Glenn Kinzie. Coombs was so infuriated he was "suckered" into taking an unnecessary roughness penalty and with him iin the sin bin the C.B.C. team scored the clincher. There were only 10 penalties in the gaine with the hometown Legionnaires taking 6 to B.W.'s 4. Each team was tagged with a fighting major early in the 3rd period. The C.B.C. squad now enter the quarter finals.
