The Canadian Tire Midgets took their season opener in Belleville 9 - 4 on the strpngth of a standout pitcbing chore by southpaw Steve Sarginson who yielded only two bits while *striking out 12. The Tiremen, jumped into an 8 - 0 lead in the first inning and this gave them ithe early margin they needed to pull out the victory. Sarginson liclped his won cause with a pair of bits an output matched by Tim Brown. Other Whitby hitters were Alex and Brian Kehoe, Mike Rowley, Cam O'Donnell and Kevin Roche. The Legionaires playing in the E.O.B.A. Pee-Wee series made their '74 debut a big one dumping Ajax 27 - 0 at Cedar Park in Ajax witl- Legionaire right-hander Larry Chizen throwing a no hitter and coming within one runner of a pitcher's "dream", a perfect gai-e. Only one Ajax runner reacbed first base and Ibis was on an error by the Whîtby club. Chlzen notched 15 strikeouts. The Legion- aires pic ked up 1 7 bits with Murray McCorkell leading the way with threc singles, wbile John Wall, Rick Dunpby and Greg Puchalski each added'a pair of safeties.
