PAGE 10, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1974, WHITBY FREE PRESS Words from West Lynde by Norm Mealing FIRST THINGS FIRST At the outset of this week's column, allow me to apologize to you ail for a mistake which appeared in last week's column. 1 reported that Dan Pellitier had indicated a W.L.C.A. general meeting would be held Sunday, Septem- ber 22nd. Not so! When 1 was speaking to Dan, he was referring to a general meeting of the Whitby Men's Hockey Association. Hopefully, no great inconvenience was caused and the W.L.C.A. newsletter sorted things out. But, at any rate, sorry to anyone who was put out by my mistake. W.L.C.A. EXECUTIVE Among other things, the recent West Lynde Community Association Newsletter invited members to eall the execu- tive with any "questions or problems". This invitation coupled with a number of calis we have received from read- ers wanting tickets to the October 4 dance, and so forth, prompts me to provide the following list of the Association Executive and their telephone numbe.rs. - President- Brian Evoy (668-2764) - Vîce-President - Kevin French (668-6956) - Secretary - Margaret Boyce (668-9691) -Treasurer - Jolen Bates (668-8225) - Director (Social) - Heather Comien (668-9429) - Director (Recreation) - Dan Pelletier (668-81 29) - Director (Membership) - Jack MacMillan (668-607 1) - Director (Community) - Bill Hoffman (668-7170) So there they are. Take them at their word, folks, and give them a eaul. W.L.C.A. GENE RAL MEETING WelI, l'Il try once again. A general meeting of the Association will be held on September 30 beginning at 7:45 P.M. at the Henry Street High School Cafetorium. For the past two weeks, I have said why I think it is important for members to attend. It is even more important now that councillor Gertshore will be present. So again, plan on be- ing there. W.L.C.A. MIXED BOWLING LEAGUE The W.L.C.A. Mixed Bowling League opened its season on Tuesday, September I7th. First night attendance was phenomenal, and the league will have eight fuît teams and a spare list of at least 10 players. On Tuesday night, a new executive for the league was elected, and consists of Garry McDermid as President, Carol Smith as Secretary/Treasurer, Phil Hill as Entertainment Co-ordinator, Gerry Shemppas Statistician and Donna Dion as Spare List Co-ordinator. As I have said many times, this was last year's most successful activity. Given the enrolment and the new executive, this year should be evenbetter. CANADIAN GRAFFITI Don't forget that on October 4th at 8:30 P.M. at the Heydenshore Pavillon we ail get a chance to relive our teenage years. Be there, and dig the groovy greats at the Fabulous Fifties Night. OBSERVATIONS In their newsletter, the W.L.C.A. Executive advises that they have contacted the municipal authorities on a number of issues. This involvement with local government is a good idea.It ervesase a me-thod of rak-nIn ayrNewm A n pressure being built and if they perceive it to be great, there will bc à second garbage collection and cleanup of the streets and 1)1aza. These extra services will be forthcoming immediately. and the accounting will follow at a much later time. Therefore, once again, a word in favour of caution. WeII, bye f'or now.
