Local U.S.Champion -free Press Photo Sixteen-year-old Sue Gribben shows the winning style that won her the United States Judo Association Women's Open Championship a week ago in Little Rock, Arkansas. Presently living near Uxbridge, Sue is a former Craydon Road resident (for 14 years) who will represent Canada in England in November in the British Open Chamnpionship. From there she will go to Spain and Austria to compete. Sue started into Judo at the tender age of 7, is presently a brown beit, and if she achieves her black belt in Deceniber will be the youngest womnan in Canada to achieve this level. To attain the U.S. championship Sue had to defeat the reigifing champion- a 'bjlack belt' from Houston, Texas. Ineidentally, the man Sue is throwing in the photo is her father Bill who runs the Kiichi-Sai Judo School in Oshawa. SECOND FIRE UN HALF HOUR This fire Sunday evening on Thickson Road South, was the second in slightly over haif-an-hour. Two barns, the first on Garden Street, were completely gutted. Whitby Firefighters responded to the first cail at 6:25 p.m., the second at 7 p.m., and were at the scene of the above pictured blaze for three hours.
