After losing 5-4 to the Wexford Raiders on Saturday the Hillers battled to a 5-5 drawv with the Toronto Nationals. On Saturday, Whitby lield leads of 2-1 and 3-2 after the first two periods. However, the Raiders outscored their visitors 3-1 in the final frarne. Scoring for Wexford were Keith Acton and Dan Tobias who each fired a pair of goals. Marty McGeown scored once. O'Connor Debating Club Wins Under the guidance of an enthusiastic debating coach, Miss Jean O'Keefe the spirit of Denis O'Connor's debatl- ing club lias risen to a peak recently following successful tournaments at St. Michael's College School in Toronto and Hioly Name of Mary in Port Credit. The novice jun- ior and senior teamis have shown that liard work and determination are worth the results. The first debate, October Stlî involved the top- ic Resolved that rural living exhauses human life more than city living. The senior teami composed of Deidre Newman, Mary Louise La- Barre, Ben Jetten and Ricl< Sheppard captured the first place trophy witlî an impres- sive four wins and no losses record. The novice team of Mary Van Hezwyk, Ron Huinink, Xavier Villada, and Alan McGinty did extrernely well also tying for first place among the sclîools present. Ron Huiniuk, Deidre New- man and Mary Louise La- Barre were awarded individ- ual ribbons for their effort!* in their respective divisions. The second debate at Holy Narne of Mary involved tlhe resolution thiat tdie destruc- tion of modern cîvilization will occur before the year 2000. The Junior Teain composed of Steve Bracken- bridge, Bob Roche, Louis Powell, Tony Jetten, and Steve Riordan failing.to place in the first debating tourna- ment sprang back on Novemn- ber 2nd, to secure a second place tie founded on the strength of 5 wins and only 1 loss. Steve Brackenbridge along with three senior de- bators Mary Louise LaBarre Ben Jetten and Rick Shêp- pard were recognized with honourable mention ribbons in the second debate.* The D'OC debators aim to repeat their extraordinary feat of the 1972-73 season of winning the all-round troph- ies in each division for the year.
