And on 24th December you'll have time before Santa arrives to join in a Christmas Candlelight Service at Burn's Church, Ashburn. This sounds a lovely way to get away from ail the commercial -rat race and return to the simple way of remembering just why we are celebrating this holi- day. 1 should imagine that other Churches in the area are offering similar services-..how about letiing the Bylines kriow, so that we can tell any newcomers to the North Ward that they will be welcome to join in the celebrations at your church. Thank you Ashburn for letting us know what is going on in your area of the North Ward. Do you hate throwing out ail those empty glass con- tainers? 1 know that many of us do-..it seems such a waste. But you can't reuse every jar or bottle that comes your way'. Does anyone who reads this column have any information on how we could have them picked up and recycled?.-.Is there a firm that will corne into Brooklin and pick them up if we have a botule drive? If you know of sucli a firm please caîl Mrs. Halsey, 655-3206 who will be only t'oo delighted ta hiear from you. Any other -information..cali the Bylines, 655-3750 and let's get it into print. STORE HOURS OPEN SIX DAYS A WEEK 8:-30. a.m. - 6 p.m. EXCEPI THURS IF1 NIGNI'S 'IL9 ~ the door open and went inside. In onec corner of the room stood an old pot- bellied stove. H-e shook his fist at the stove and commanded, "Stave, give me heat and l'il give you wood.." Fie stood and waited but he could feçI no heat. And again he dcmanded, "Stove, give me heat and l'Il give you wood," but no heat could lie feel. He shouted his command for the stove ta give lm heat until his voice became hioarse but to no avail. He pulled blis coat tightly around himself and sat down on the floor by the stave. He shivered as he waited for the stove to give him heat until he collapsed and froze because he didn't realize that be would have ta give the wood before lie could enjoy the heat. One persan may say, "Why is it that 1 am always s0 unlucky? Why can't 1 have a better job sa 1 could earn more money and be able ta afford a better car and a finer, more beautiful home? Why is it that the breaks always camre to someone cisc?" And sa often that persan wili keep right on asking "why" instead of doing something ta improve bis circumstances. Another persan takes an entirely different approach. This one says, "I am not satisfsed with my present status in life, 1 want something better. 1 want a better job, with a higher income, 50 1 can enjoy more of the finer things in this world." Then he sits down ta ana-, lyze his situation, ta determine what hie will have ta do in arder ta get what lie wants. If it réquires a better job he will determine what he must do,- if anything, ta qualify himself for it. When hie realizes what has ta be done hie doesn't put it off, he immediately gets busy and does it. This is the man who wilI succeed. This is the man who may seem ta be lucky, but his secret is seldom luck, it is usually deliberate and consistent action. When we firmly resalve ta face up ta the price of a successful life, when we become willing ta give the wood of constant and persistent effort, only then can we expect ta enjoy the heat; only then can we begin ta look for- ward ta a richer, fuller and more re- warding life, "Such is the way ta win."
