If it was up to themn we would be having themn quite soon, but-..isn't it always 'but'-..we now hage to see whether the Province wfil go along with ail these recommendations. It's up to them, and it would seem that two years ago when the Town proposed the same idea, they turned the whole thing down. Let's hope that with the Region backing the idea they will have second though ts. Members of St. Thomas's Anglican Church take note that the Vestry Family Supper is on Monday, January 27th -..at 6 p.m. The evening meeting wll follow at 8 p.m. The supper has of necessity to be for menibers of the parish only, but for other Anglicans not on the parish mailiîng list and would like to receive a copy of the annual report, please cali Mr. Chris Greaves at 655-3809. A quiz! You don't.like to see animals in pain? You do like an auction? You do like ta see groups heping themn- selves and not jus t asking for, money? If you answer yes to one or ail of the above questions then I know that you wil be înterested in the following. The Ontario Humane Society is holding an auction ..... in fact a Giant Auction' .. Monday, February 24th to Friday February 28th, at the St. Lawrence Market, 92 Front Street East* Toronto. Ail the proceeds wil be going to help their veterinary services de- partment at various branches throughout the Province. There will be a large selection of furniture (new and used) appliances, sports equipment, antiques, paintings, rural crafts etc. for the public to bid on. . But if you have anything in your own home, that you think co.ild help to raise sorne money for the cause, then the Society wiIl bc only too pleased ta acccpt iL. So dig tliem out and caîl that number. Another quiz! You live in the North Ward? You pay taxes? You would like ta voice your opinion on matters concerning the North Ward? Thien get your calendar and put a big, Wright circle around Tuesday 28th January and make note of the time..8 p.m. And then make sure that you get over to St. Thomas's parish hall on Winchester Road for a meeting of the North Whitby Community Association that wil be held that evening. ALL the people of the- NORTH WARD are invited to attend this first and very important meeting to form a tax-payers group, that wil have the hopes and interests of the area as its main concern. It's what many of you have been waiting for..so give those that have taken the initiative your support, and make every effort to 'attend. 1 attended a -meeting of the Regional Animal Control Committee the, other day and came up with some interest- ing data. (1) The Town of Whitby pays $ 1.65 per capita (or approximately $40,000) for animal control. Yes. That much! (2) 80% of dogs picked up in the Municipality are not tagged. (3) Some Municipalities are seriously consider- ing not permitting <,wnership of dogs, after three convic- tions for letting a dog run loose. I concluded that we need 4,000 licences to be taken out ta cover the cost, ifthe non- dog owner isn't ta subsidize the cost thro' his taxes; that a great many dog owners feel they are above the iaw, and neither pay the licence fée or keep their dogs on their property, or under control when off it; and that some Coundils have more respect for the tax payers money than ours, by considering elimination of the problem owner who is the source of the trouble anyway!
