The Flyers assigried Mur- ray to their farm club in the International League, Des Moines, lowa. The McDonalds are look- ing for compensation for Murray in the form of a re- placement and/or money. The club, is currently appealing to NHL president Clarence Campbell thwugh Gordon Juckes, executive director of the Canadian Ama teur Hoekey Association. According to team presi- dent Tom Fitzsimmons, the Macs aren't trying to keep Murray from the Flyers, but instead want to determine what prô-tection senior teams have in situations like this. Each team in the Ontario Hockey Association Senior 'A' series is allowed 19 play- er cards in a season and the Macs used their final one to sign player-coach Dave Nich- olishen from the Barrie Fly- ers. In addition, the team used a card for George Vail who played just two games with the Macs. Whitby is also lodging an appeal Io the OHA request- ing permission to sign a re- placement for Murray... In on the ice action, the McDonalds dropped two con- tests last week. On Wcdnesday, the red hot Cambridge Hornets came to town and downed the, Macs 6-4. Whitby took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Gord Mc- Cosh. However, goals by Jim Springhill and Bob Channel gave Cambridge a 2-1 margin entering the second period. The Hornets blew it wide. open in the middle frame, outscoring Uic Macs 3-1. Joh n Rutherford, Gord Tucker and Ken Tyler scored for Cambridge and Greg Bodnar for Whitby. The Macs narrowed the margin to one on third period goals by Gary Mlroy and Steve Hunt. Cambridges' Gary Brewer put a dampe'r on the corne- back when he scored into an cm pty net in the final minute. WnS unday, Whitby visited Napance to take, on the Cornets. The Cornets were ready for Whitby and dumped Uic visitors 8.6. Napance lead 3-1 after one period but trailed 5.4 follow- ing Uic second. Dick Cherry scored a hat- trick for the Cornets with singl es going to Joh n McConnell, Wayne McConnell Woodcock Wins $800 Doug Woodcock of Whit- by collected $800 on dic weekend as a result of his efforts in the slalom cvcnt at Mount Snow, Vermont.
