Councillor Goodwin sug- gested alternatives to adver- tising in local newspapers when two separate items came Up. He feels that instead of advertising that nurses' week in Ontario is June 1 to 7, he proposed the town place proclamations in the munici- pal, building and post office. Councillor Goodwin also sugpisted that instead of advertising that April is can- cer month, the town make a donation to set an example for the citizens. He feels that the town spends too much money on advertising- Councillor Goodwin failed with both of his suggsns Extension Course, He'Ips, BeautThe High' Cost of Food Durham College will be offering an extension course that helps 'citizens beat the high cost of food. It con- cerns vegetable gardening - and along with four hours of advance instruction - stu- dents can obtain a plot of land to cultivate- at a nomi- nal cost. Cyril G. Wick a profes- sional Gardener will ot only give interesting lectures on gardening, but will provide practical instruction during working sessions when stu- dents will be engaged in cit- ivating and planting. Two evening lectures of two hours duration will be given on Monday nighits from 7-9 p.m. April 28 and May 5. Thie course will cover soil preparation, the laying out of the garden plot, the rowing of vegetables from early seedlings, insect con trol and the harvesting and stor- ing of vegetables. There will be five working sessions when students will be gardening under the direc- tion of Mr. Wick.
