You are also probably very confused about whazt 15 being built, by whom, for whoin, tinder whose authority, and wh*ly. This Issue has dorninated conversations in this commiun-' ity for better thani two miontlis now, and has turned our commLlnity association into a politically active grotup, a direction that 1 would wager very few of the Executive willingly wanted to take. Ille issue is far-frorn dead, but so that I migit put it into soi-e klnd of perspective, I propose to surnrnarizc tie salient featurcs of the issuie in this column, by means of sorne questions and answers, and hopefully, not write about it again unlcss, or until sorne- thing drarnatic happens, or sortie resolution occurrs. They are financing the project b.y means of an' eight percent rnortgage. Is it subsidized rental housing? »>Yes. In return for the mortgage the developer must make avalable 25% of the suites to the O.H.C. for its Rent Geared-to-Incorne Prograrn. The remaining 75% of the units will have limits pîaced on the rent, and on the family incornes of those renting the apartments. Who approved this Developmfent? The Whitby Counicil passed a by-law in 1973 allowing the developrnent and the Ontario Government approved the project for its financing seherne in May of this year. Where wil the people corne f rom! For the O.H.C. units the people mnust corne from Whitby However, by its own admission, the O.H.C. acknowledges no demand for its housing in Whitby. The rent stabilized, ie. lirnited or controlîed, can be rented to anyone frorn anywhere. Has the development been fully researched? There is considerable conflicting opinion in this regard. Although the developer dlaims that schools, transportation, etc. have been taken into account, 1, pçrsonally, have seen no evidence to su'pport this'cdaim. Is there a need for this developi-nent in Whitby? Thie consensus of opinion in this regard would say no. Who can stop the developnient?
