Reds continue to record impressive wins will meet stiffest competition in Oshawa The Whitby Reds ran their unbeaten streak in E.O.B.A. midget play to six games when they edged Ajax 4-3 in Ajax. Playing with a patched up lineup the Reds squeaked to their victory on the strength of a 2-0 lead in the first inning which proved to be the margin needed for the win. Cam O'Donnell made his first pitching start of the season and held Ajax to four hits and struck out ten in an impressive showing for his first outing. He had very little control trouble and had great success with his off speed pitches. In the bottom of the seventh with the Reds- out in front 4-2, Ajax scored a run to make it 4-3 and put a man in scoring position at second with none out and the Reds brought in Cam Murkar who put out the fire with a' pair of strikeouts and an out- field pop fly to preserve the win for O'Donnell. The Reds got a double and single each from Cam O'Don- nell and Brett Hoffman, while Steve Titton, John Heffer and Cam Murkar added singles. On Sunday at E.A. Fair- man Park the Reds kept their win streak intact with a 26-3 drubbing of Peterborough. Peterborough, counted on to be as usual one of the strong clubs of the loop were surpris- ingly weak with obvious pitching woes and a soppy defense which gave the Reds some easy runs. Whitby jumped into a 8-0 lead in the first inning when three Peter- borough pitchers could not find the plate and issued 6 walks in this inning alone, which combined with errors and one Whitby hit got them into trouble for the rest of the game. In the fourth the Reds added another whopping eight runs to take most of the interest out of the contest. The Reds got a solid pitching chore from lefty Dave McWhirter who held the visitors to three hits and put eleven away on strikeouts. In addition to his steady performance on the mound he came up with a single and a long double to help the Whitby attack. Other hitters for the Reds were Cam O'Donnell who also made a pair of standout stops at third, with a double and single, Cam Murkar with three singles, Doug Shearer John Heffer and Brett Hoff- rnan each with a pair of sin- gles, and Kirk Roberts, Steve Tutton cach with a single. The Reds- will meet their stiffest test of the season thiî Friday when they play the Oshawa Legionaires under the lights at Kinsmen Stadium in a game underway at 7:30 p.m. The two clubs tied 2-2 in their earlier meet- ing of the season.
