Sorichetti and Sons for the construction. of two 20-storey apart- ment buildings on the corner of Jeffrey and Dundas Streets. The high rise apart- monts have. been a controvorsîil issue in ~the. $qqwm for the tast fow months for two reasons. Whitby citi- zens are opposed to the height of the structures and the Ontario Housing Corp- oration proposai of, making several of the units available ta peo- pie on iow income. .At a public meeting called approximately one month ago ta dis- cuss the matter, an estimated 300 people confronted O.H.C. of- ficials to- express disapproval of the pro- ject. At that time, some mem bers- of Whitby Council let it be known that they too were opposed to the project and hinted that they would make an effort to satisfv the public's feelings on the matter. At a regular council meeting some time later, Councillor Tom, Edwards announced that the town was seeking legal advico on the issue. On Monday night, Whitby Council dis- cussed the matter in a conf idential meeting and* Cierk Wallace announoed yesterday that the Town's solicitor, Lawrence Mandel of Rogers and Thompson, Torontof will appeal the court order to issue the building permit at the Supremne Court sittings on Friday in Toronto. Publishing and Photography-said "the Free Press was steadily growing out of its former offices, and with the recent addition of three more staff two fuli-time> bringing our fuil-time staff to seven, we just didn't have the room ta house everybody and ail our new mactiinery. Our new offices,_ at the former Marano Shoes location, will give us about four times as much spaoe on twO levols, and will onable us to continue on target with the graduai expansion planned for this year."
