Today was the second day of summer, and, as on the flrst day, the weather c.ould flot have been finer. If it keeps up, we wil ail soon forget what a lousy winter and spring we had. Now that sumnmer has officially arrived, our cominunity association, like many other things, wiil shift into low geai. Their final fling of this first haif of 1975 was held on Friday, June 20 at the Heydenshore Pavilion when more than 350* people thoroughly enjoyed the summer dance. Te Moth-ball-mo-jo bau*d, aided by "DK the DJ" pro- vided the music for what had to be the most successful W.L.C.A. dance in the short history of West Lynde. A tip, therefore, of the chapeau to ail concerned, especially Mrs. Karen Kerr. You have left ai of us who attended with good memories and looking forward with anticipation to the return of the dances in the fail. Speakingý of anticipation, word has it that -the high-rise battie is far from'over. Just what is coming next is difficuit to. tell, but to ail of you who share the conimon concem, have faith. We may yet win in the long run. .A recent move. at Queen's Park may prove to be of singular Importance, to ail of us In Durham in the long mun as well.' 1renier Davis appointed a new, Minister for Municipal Affairs last week, Dick Becket fromi Brantford. Mr. Becket has been a, politician for over,20 years, 18 of.,them as Mayor of Brantford. He is completely aware of the pro- blemrs facing towns and cities, and it seenis that lie wil ihaie thesç concemns. I had occasion -recently to chat briefly with the new Minîster, and he indicated a large concern over the direc- tion takçn by regional govermnents everywhere. Maybe, just maybe, he wil move to bring the regional governnent in, this aiea in Uine. -Abrief glinipse through the most recent W.L.C.A. Newslettcr. shows thfe stateof things ini West Lynde, and it- ain't too bad. 'One really good thing whidi has happened recently is the very real increase ini memberships. On our street, for exaznple, there are only one or two familles who are not members of the W.L.C.A. I know an awful lot of work has gone into this aspect of association business, and large congrats go out to the street reps, and John Giles, the Membership Director.
