Starting with 30 members in Mardi, 1974, the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital Staff Credit Union "has soared ahead", according to the hospital newsletter "Staff Liner". The credit union now has 190 members, assets of $42,407.47 in bank accounts, league deposit, shares, depos- it accounits, etc. Liabilities are $41,423.08, investment income totalled $907.77, and administration expenses totalled $445.18. The credit union allows staff members to deposit their money into deposit accounts in lump sums of $100, eaming the prevailing interest rate as calculated and approved by the board of directors monthly. In order to make use of t.bis service, staff members must become members of the credit union by paying an entrance fee of 25 cents and buying one share ah $5. Other deposits automatic- ally go into shares which are the memnber's bought portion of the credit union, mucli as one might 'buy shares in a corporation. These shares earn dividends at the end of thc year, bascd on the credit union's profit. There is no limit on the amount which can ho put into shares.
