by Norm Mealing P.D. DAYS: With the word from the local schoô'l that Monday, October 6th, was to be another professional development day, we were moved to compose the following little poern. It is written out of a sense of frustration wikh, we feel, is probably universal among parents in Ontario today. We apologize to aIl serious poets everywhere. THE PARENTS'LAMENT "Out in the kitchen, a voice is crying, Professional Development Day, Another mother laments another Professional Development Day, Forever with us, forever to be used, The Teach ers' Pro fessional Development Day. "In the old days, there were no Professional Development Days, And the teachers have enjoyed these Professional Development Days, One only hopes they have developed in some minor way, By working on their Professional Development Days. The school year is short enough without Professional Development Days, Now, il is nine days shorter thanks 10 Professional Development Days, But, don't despair, teachers are more aware, becaiise of Professionai Dcveloprnent Days. The kids themselves enjoy the Professional Development Day, It gives them so much more trne for play, But, whien you ask them why their sehool is closed, they answer Another teachers' holiday. "The news has dealt at length with the Professional Developrnent Day, And parents have complaincd ad nauseum about the Professional Developmcnt Day, Only teachers, for some reason, promote the beauty of the Professional Developrnent Day. j "Our only hope is to support enthusiastically the Professionai Developmcnt Day, And lobby for ils extension in many another way, And then both you and I can have our own Professional Deveopment (Holi)Day."
