NOVEMBER 5,1975,,PAGE 3 WAINWR1GHJ"6#T il SPECIA LS Brian Winter joins staff Mike Burgess, publisher of the Whitby Free Press, is pleased 'to ann ounce that Brian Winter has joined the editorial staff of the newspaper as fuli-time Community Editor. Mr. Winter is well known to Whitby residents as Archivist of the Whitby Historical Society, and for his involvemnent with other conimunity organiza- tions such as the County Town Carnival Committee, Chamber of Commerce and his histori- cal work for the Ontario Ladies' College. Mr. Winter was honoured last year by the residents of Whitby with the presentation of the Peter Perry Award as Whitby's nai' of the year. He has written several historical books on Whitby including the On tario Ladies' College centennial history in 1974. He has lived ini Whitby for the last 20 years, previously residing in Toronto. Mr. Winter studied journalisîn at Centennial College in Scarboroughi and has worked for the Oshawa TUnes for the last five years as Whitby reporter. wo IV! je. Let beauty to head! go your BOB CASPELL. The newest member of Whitby's recreation depart- ment staff is Bob Caspeil, who took the position of co-ordinator tif cornmunity services, October 20. Mr. Caspeil, 28, is married, and will soon be moving to Whitby from Port Credit, is a graduate from the University of Waterloo, with a Bachelor of Science degree. . Whle at university he took a co-operative honors kinesiol- ogy program, which is a study of the scientific and philispph- ical elements of recreation and physical education. In 1971, Mr. Caspeli was physical director of the St. James, Town YMCA in Toronto, and from 1972 to 1975 was supervisor of physi- cal recreation for the City of Mississaugft Recreatiori and Parks Departmerlt. In his new position at Whitby, Mr. Caspeil will be working with community groups to assist them in their recreation programs, and hopes to continue the recrea- tion departrnt's liaison with the Durham Region Board of Education regarding use of schools. He wilI be involved ini the Iroquois Park aquai.s pro- gram, and hopes to assisi in the formation of commUnity recreation associations. He wilI be involved in increasiflg senior citizern activities, and plans to develop recreational prograrl1tfing for die corn- niwnly as the needs and dcniands become kniown. Mr. Caspell is intcrcstcd in sailing, skiing, travel and die arts, and hopes to join the Whitby Yacht Club. He also intends to continue bis education at Durham College.
