PAGE 16, WEDNESDAY, MAY 26,1976, WHITBY FREE PRESS Brooklin Spring Fair set to go lune 3 to 5 A lot of hard work on the part of the Brooklin Fair Board and its many cominit- tees, has resulted in a new look for this annual event. Normally the Fair is a one day event, but this year there will be two evenings of activities prior to the main day events, which will be held on Saturday June 5. Thursday, June 3 will see the Miss Brooklin Spring Fair- Beauty Pageant taking place at 8 p.m. at the Brooklin Memorial Arena onWinchester Road. Following this will be a Teen Dance. Admission to the Pageant is $1.....andthis will include the dance. Both these activities are being organised by Mr. Bob Carson, and anyone who wants further details can give him a call at 655-3662. While all this goes on inside the Arena, outside the Brooklin Kinsmen will be serving beer and good humor at their Beer Tent which will be open from 5 p.m. until midnight. And for the younger people the Midway will be in full Swing. Friday evening sees the Midway and the Beer Tent back in full force, but at 6 p.m. there will be a new attraction.....Harness Horse Races, with pari-mutual betting privilages. And if your interest in four-legged animals is restricted to dogs, then you may well be interested in the Dog Obedience Demonstration that will take place at 6:30 p.m. on the Ball Diamond. And at 7:30 p.m. there will be an Old Time Fiddlers Contest. Fair Day itself will be kicked off in grand fashion by the Annual Parade. This year the Parade will start at North St. at 10:30 a.m. sharp....(no joking, this is one parade that does start on time!) and will come marching straight down the highway before turning off onto Cassels Rd. E., and then onto Simcoe and into the Fair Grounds. The Parade organi- sers, Group '74, are saluting the Olympics this year in the Float section. Highlights of a day that is filled with activities ranging from Craft Demonstrations to Nail Driving Contests;from cattle judging to square dancing; will be the Second Annual M:itt. Show being organised by the Ontario Humane Society; the Western Rodeo; and the Horse Draw1 Compe tition. The Ken-Jen Pettiig Zoo will be there for the young people...arranged by the Fair Board and Group 74 ànd so admission will bei free. And the Fire Dept willi be giving an display of their1 skills. The official opening1 will take place at 1:00 p.m.,i the ceremony being perform-i ed by the Hon. William Newman, Minister of Agricul- ture and Food. Altogether much hard1 work and thought has gonei into the planningof thisyear's Fair, and with the results that there will be plenty for both young and old alike. Now the organisers are taking a slight breather before the day, and keeping their fingers crossed for good weather, and large crowds to-enjoy the results of their work.
