It seems that everyone you meet is just leaving for a vacation or has just cdome back fron one. It's nice to get away for a few days but you must admit that spending the summer aI home around our area isn't a bad thing at ail. There doesn't seem to be much organized activity for adults but the children's parks programs, run by the Whitby 'Y', are in full swing and apparently are very successful this summer. The film program at the Brooklin ranch Library will feature seven films of well-known fairy tales this coming Tuesday, the 27th, from 2:30 i.until 3:30 p.m. This interesting selection of 16 mm sound films should be of special entertainment for younger childrcrn. In place of the regular story hour and craft session beirig heldThursday afternoons this summer, there will be, on the 29th a special puppet show. The puppet show will begin at 2:30 and finish at 3:30 p.m. Commencing this Saturday, July 24th, the Public Library in Brooklin will be closed on Saturdays. This Saturday closing will continue until Saturday, Sept. 4th, when Saturday hours will begin again. Whitby. choir gets grant The Trembita Ukrainian Choir in Whitby has received a Wintario grant of $2,980 10 assist in the purchase of new costumes and instruments. Council studies financing for Brooklin secondary plan 1Whitby Council, on Monday, will consider a recommendation frorn its administrative committee which, if adopted, could see the secondary plan study of Brookîhii begin in the not too distant future. The committee made. the recommendation at a recent meeting with Somer Rumm of Consolidated Building Corporation, the major Brooklin developer. The recommendation urges counicil- to seek provincial funds to finance the entire study at a cost of approxi- mately $90,000. If the money does not corne from the Ministry of Housing by the end of July, the committee wants council to authorize a study on the financial impact and theý transportation needs if development occurs in Brooklin.
