PAGE 8, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22,1976, WHITBY FREE PRESS 12 Ontarijo Seholart; Ashburn giîrl is OLC valedictorian An Ashburn girl, Martha Hollingsworth, the daughter of former Whitby Councillor Sam Hollingworth and Mrs. Hollingworth was the vale- dictorian at the Annual Commencerent of Ontariô- Lidies College September 10. The Commencement exercises were held earlier than usual this year as classes began the first Tuesday of this rnonth. Ontario Ladies College, Whitby, had 12 Ontario Scholars among the 34 Secondary School honour graduates. Martha Hollings- worth is one of the Ontario Scholars. The College also had 17 Secondary School graduates receiving diplornas. There were rnany prizes winners and arnong those Win- ning scholarships were enve girls who won the Arthur H. Allun Scholarship. Mr. Allin was a druggist in Whitby for rnany years. His drug store was located at the northwest corner of Brock and Dundas Streets, Whitby's four corners. One of the proud homes 'of Whitby is that of Mr. Allin's, stili stand- ing at the northeast corner of Green and Coîborne Streets Among the five proud winners of this scholarship is Kathryni Davis, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Reginald Davis of Whtby. Both Dr. John B. Davis, of Whitby, President of the Ontario Ladies' College Board of Directors, and Dr.Reginald Davis, principal of the College, during their rernarks, welcorned Sarah W. Murdoch to the College. Miss Murdoch is the new Dean at O.L.C., arriving in Whitby-the latter part of August from Montreal. In his interesting address to the graduates of Ontario Ladies' College, Mayor Jlrn Gartshore said he was proud to be present amiong a bevy of beautiful and intelligent girls. 1- l oped that the with pleasure, the years they had spent at Ontario Ladies' College and in Whitby as they go forth on their varlous paths into the future and the world. He compared the Ontario Ladies' College to the United Nations. It is a meeting place for students fromn varjous parts of the world, which becornes a learning experience for ail who corne in contact with the girls and graduates of this century-old college. He wished the graduates, students, faculty staff and Alumnae members every success for the future. Mrs. Marion O'Donnell, who has scrved on the Counity and Regional Board since it was formied in 1969, anniounced last week that she will flot be seeking re-election. Marjorie Mclntyre, who has been Whitby's other representative on the Board for the past six years, wvill not contest this year's election because of illness. Twvo positions for Wihitby are open on thue Board of Education, but so far Mrs. 0'Donnell has flot heard of anyone running for these positions.
