Eddie "The Entertainer" Shack, who entertained pro- fessional hockey fans for several years with his unusual antics, will be in the Warriors' lineup for this gaine and probably the entire season, General Mana- ger AI Armstrong announced Sunday. Free Press Photo Three ail-star soccer teams make finals By STEVE PORTER All three Whitby all-star teams have now made the finals of the County Inter- district Soccer League play- offs. The Whitby Rangers mosquitos were the first to get through when they defeated Ajax in the two-game total-goal semi-final by a score of 9-5. In the peewee semi-final, the Whitby Carretto Restaur- ant team met Pickering Falcons in what was to prove to be a close hard fought contest. The first game saw Pickering take a one-goal lead and hold on to this edge until half-time. Soon after the restart, the Falcons went further- ahead and it looked for a time as though they would carry this advantage into the second game but, 20 minutes before the end, Whitby were awarded a penalty shot and Warren Subject made no mistake. Just before the final whistle, Subject got his second to tic things up and send the two teams into the second gaine even. The second game was Whitby's from the start and it took them only three minutes to get on the score- board and again it was Warren Subject ably assisted by Joe Palacka and Greg Borchuk. Three minutes before the interval, Warren Subject got his second of the game and the fourth of the series to give Carretto a 2-0 interval lead. In the second half, Pickering put on a det.er- mined effort but a solid Whitby defence did not allow any penetration and Bernard Doleweerd got his shut-out to give Carretto a 4-2 series win. This series was indicative of the closeness of these two teams that have a season record of two wins, two losses and one tie against each other with Whitby scoring 10 and Pickering 9. The bantams series was played simultaneously with the peewees but there the similarity ends. While Carretto were battling Falcons in a very even series, Ferreo, with only 10, players, were walking ail over' Uxbridge to the tune of 15-2. Ferrco also eliminated Ajax in the first round by an identical 15-2 scries score. - In the first half of the first game, Whitby had most of the play but some terrible finishing off kept the interval score at 1-1 with Dave Cini scoring for Ferrco and Tim Cole for Uxbridge. Ferrco continued their dominating in the second half and their finishing improved, resulting in a final score of 8-1 with the seven second half goals by Keith Wilson, four; Jim Reid, two; and Pete Saturno. The outcome of the second game was more or less identical with Ferrco winning 7-1, with scoring handled by Rick Borg, three; Keith Wilson, Dave Wilcox and Paul Hunt. The Oshawa and District Minor Soccer Association's McLaughlin Centennial Mos- quito Tournament, held in Oshawa, was won by Niagara Falls Carlesso Construction. Niagara won the final by de- feating St. Andrews 6-1 in the championship game. Whitby was represented by the Rangers team and the boys finished up with one win and two losses although by all reports it should have been 1-1-1. On Saturday morning, Oshawa Lions just edged post Rangers on a 1-0 score but, in the afternoon, Ranîgers rebounded to win over Pine View Gladiators by a score of 5-2 on goals by Wayne Misselbrook and Gerry Winkle, two each and Tom Scheefer. In the Sunday morning game, Ian Porter was the lone Whitby scorer in a loss to Aurora by a tally of 4-I. The girls soccer season ended when the Kinettes were defeated 3-2 by Richmond Hill in the semi-final of the Ontario Cup. Scoring for the local teani were Liz Verrdyt and Kathy Harris. Congratu- lations to the players, coaches, managers, etc. of the Kinettes for getting so far in a very difficult contest, and to all the people involved in girls soccer in the district. thanks for a job well donc.
