Mr. McFarlane was a resident of this town on two occasions, from 1936 to 1943, and from 1961 to 1976. In August he purchased a home near Minden Ontario, where lie wili reside in the summer, -and in the winters he will continue to live at Sarasota, Florida. On October 14, he lefi Whitby for Florida. During the week of September 20 to 25, Mr. McFarlane made a successful promotion tour of New York and Boston, bcinginterviewed for radio, television and the press about his au tobiography, "The Ghost 'of the Hardy Boys". ~rg h (INTRODUCINS THE 11977) Pocur Wagon "The Gliost of the Hardy Boys", in ýwhicli Mr. McFarlane outlineshis literary career, and tells how lie was really the seemingly immortal Franklin W. Ile was even interviewed by Rolling Stone 'Magazine, a popular magazine anong America's youth. Mr. MeFarlane says the tour wvas very successful in ternis of the ntumber of people reached, but hielhas hiad no feedback yet, as it was only a month ago. As he approaches his 74th birthday, Mr. McFarlane is still actively writing, and lias- a Toronto publîsher interest- ed in a new novel. Born at Carleton Place, On tario, Mr. McFarlane started writing fiction at the age of 24 in 1926. The story of his literary work for the Stratemneyer Snydicate, and the creation of the Hardy Boys, is told in his au tobiograpliy. In his speech lie stressed the historical roots of the town and wliat they mnean to its people. Whitby lias honored Mr. McFarlane by naming one of the streets in the West Lynde Subdivision "McFarlane Court".
