John D'Costa: Curricul- um will dominate the education scene in secondary sehools in future. Separate sehool supporters will expeet leadership and effective policies "in this regard at the Board level. Their main concern will be whether secondary schools wiII help their children attain the maturity, the confidence, the ability, the knowledge, the skills, to become fully functional aduits and citizens. My post-graduate studies in Curriculum will help me become an effective partner in the desicion-rnaking proccss in issues related to it. Parents -are Icft quite confuscd by tie complexi- tics of secondary school education. Catholic parents and ratepayers have an obligation and a right to know and undcrstand the educational systcmi. 1 will establish a 4'ýcommnunications systcmi" on a continuonis basis bv introducing. an qgen-line policy that will fa'cilitate the free discussion of educational issues. With the insight 1 have gained as a Catholic educator of many years, 1 can keep parents and ratepayers informed about curriculum and other educational issues - 1 want to remove the com- munications barrier in1 Durham. Gerry Noonan: I believe that the greatest issue for separate school supporters at this time is the increasing tax burden that is being forced on them, which, of course is of concern to ail ratepayers. 1 will continue to keep the increases'to a minimum and at the same time maintain the standards that we now have. Separate school support- .ers want their children to be taught by dedicated teachers who are in harmony with administra- tion and Board. Many teachers of this time are cxpressing a number of con- cerns. I believe that the Durham Board must establish an Educational Policy Comimittee enabling. teachers and trustees to sit down together and discuss and resolve these concerns. I intcnd to work towards this end after the elecion. Wed. Dec. 1 st 6:30-7pm Positions on separate sehool board sought by Goverde, Millet, Roche Candidates for mayor Scu gag Township Thurs.
