WHAT QUALIFICA- TIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE POSITION YOU ARE SEEKING? Joe Drumnm: 1 have lived in Whitby for the past 20 years. During that period of timne I have been a Director of the Whitby 'Y' 1 have been. President of the Oshawa and District Cerbral Palsy Parent Council for Crippled Children and xvas President of Local 905 International Assoc. of Machinists. For nany years 1 coached both mninor hockey and bail. These are sorne of the projccts I undertook and they brought me into contact with various people. Thats what its aIl about understand- ing people. Ron Treleaven: For your consideration, my qualifica- tions: past director of the Corridor Ratepayers Assoc., Presîdent of Tri-Cîrcle Service Ltd. Active in the concerns of our community making pre- sentatiuns to regional and local council on your behaîf. Assisted in resolving local issues to a mutually acceptable conclusion.. Bob White: In sec king the position lof Councillor-East Ward-it'is-a privilege to be oble to offer myself, and many -years of Municipal experience to the people. As alformer East Ward represen- fûtive from 1968 to 1973, 1 gained vauable experience while being chairman of the Recreation Committee, Public iWorks Dept., Planning Board, Administration Dept., Opera- tions Committee, Urban Pro- gramme Study and, most recently, the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Author- ity. Although absent for the past three years, I have kept abreast of municipal affairs and maintained a close rela- tih ith the people in teEast Ward. WHAT ISSUES, HAVE THE GREATEST IMPACT ON THE RESIDENTS IN YOUR WARD AND WHAT WILL YOU, IF ELECTED COUNCILLOR FOR THAT WARD, DO ABOUT THESE ISSUES? Joe Drumm: To protect what we now have, when you put them aIl together thats what it boils down to. To protect the people of Sthis town from the inroads of. developers from too much residential development and we need protection against Durham -Region. Regional Government has donc more to alienate people toward Local Government than anything I know. Its given us higher taxes and water bills Frankly 1cant sec any benifits. JOF DRUMM RON TRELEAVEN BOB WHITE is at issue in this election. Ron Treleaven: With yeur support I will endeavouir to have public input adhered to in the planning of our cornmunity. lnsist our official plan guidelines are followed and our identity and property values are miaintained to a standard of which we are proud andclhave set. Protect our interests by iniplenienting environrnental area zoning bylaws after public input into their content. Prevent the developers frein using more than their share of the density figures that have been set down in the guidelines fer each area. Promote a portable library system to utiliize and make more accessible to ail the residents. Assist al residents with problems to overcomne bureaucratic red tape. Will represent with honesty, sincerity and devote whatever tirne is required to be effective. As your repre- sentative will demand more recreational facilities to be placed throughout th e east ward. For strong representa- tion vote Ron Treleaven. Bob White: More than ever before, 1 arn convinced the people in the East Ward are tired of ever increasing spending and higher taxes. My neighbours in this ward are reasonable people who are afrâid to become involved and insist on such things as adequate park facilities, properly planned and accep- table development, essential services, good roads, etc. Not- withstanding, some of these responsibilities are Regional, and 1 believe the Municipal Councillor must accept the role of watchdlog, cornnuni- cator and general eyes and cars of the cornmunity, on affairs flot otily at loua1 level, but Regional level. The timie to inform- people of proposed by-laws and changes to by- laws, is at the comnmiiittee level. when they tani becone involved, ,not after the issue becoînes Iaw. More than ever, wve need proven exper- iencedi people, to lead alnd guide our commutnity afflairs, with logical, sober reaisening.
