WHIT BY FREE, PRESS, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 22,1976e PAGE B3 N"E SPIRIT 0F CHRISTMAS PULLOUT SECTION For centuries, man has soughtý peace. In OId Testament times, the prophet Isaiah delaredThey shail beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shahl they Iearn war any more." As we celebrate the birth of Christ, once again hearts are raised in prayer for universal peace. One of the most beautiful of stories to be related to littie ones at their mothers' knees, has been the legend of the babe in the manger, born of Mary . .. and of the angeis, the star, the shepherds, and what it has meant to man- kind. A simple story, of how the weary travelers, joseph and Mary, found shelter in a stable because there was no room for them at the inn. And in that humble place where domestic animais were kept, Mary "brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling ciothes, and laid him in a manger". Best ioved of al the many accounts of that beautiful, star-lit night is St. Luke's recalling of the "Shepherds abiding in the feld, keeping watch over their flock by night." To every child cornes the vision of that sky full of angels singing a promise of peace on earth; the wonder and reverence of those shepherds fflled with joy; and the blazing Christmas star, beacon to guide al and a symbol of hope and gladness which is forever to be seen atop every chiid's Christmnas tree. So natural, so lovable, this story of a baby laid on the doorstep of the world, who was God and King and Savior, must be told again this Christmnas season to the children 'of the world. This Christmas season gîves us a special opportunity to extend our greetings to everyone and express appreciation to our valued friends.f D.W.McQaUAYl Jim Speers Don McfluY .
