Since early in September, students have been active in raising money, participating on inter- school teams and most of al showing their school spirit. Grade nine students got an early taste of this spirit on Orientation Day, a day which initiated these new students to the life of the high school. They were made humble in front of their senior students and swore an oath to be loyal to Anderson. OrientationDay was very successful and hope- fully will continue to be an annual event. The Anderson spirit can easily be seen on the school teains. The junior girls' basketball team won bolh LOSSA and COSSA. They lost only two gaines in two years. Both boys' volleyball teanis played excellent bail this year. with the juniors winning LOSSA and COSSA. Perhaps the most exciting team was the senior football club. Despite a couple of controversial games, the Raiders', football club showed On December 31, we need your help to bring in the new year, and send out the old, accurately. Anderson's and many contributed this a very ihas also hosted this year. The on October 1, igroup called This was Sadie Hawkins a joyous couple towards making successful dance. The season dance, on' December 17, presented "Wireless", a new group already gaining a reputation around Toronto. This was Anderson's Christinas dance and was as equally and success- ful as the "Sadie"ý. The students of Anderson will not forget Canada's past;. instead they commiemnorate it, especially on Remernbrance Day. The Student Couincil participated on' this day with an interview with George Qiiick. Mr. Quick, the music teacher at Anderson, is a veteran of World War Il. Nurnerous sock hops fi die gymis with students during noon hours to raise inoney for different causes. One such is support for the school's Foster Child who lives in the Phillipines. To raise even m ore for this Foster Child, the students of Anderson pitch in their pennies for the annual "Penny Drive" which is currently being held. The money raised in this drive not only helps to support our Foster Child, but is also given to other charities. A new club was formed to join the many others. It is WHERE IS MY METER LOCATED? DIVING basketbal champs The Denis O'Connor Junior Girls Chargers were in top form as they won the Central Ontario Secondary Schools Association'A' championships in basketball recently. Their first gaine, played against Norwood High School of Peterborough, was a low- scoring 25-13 victory for DO'C. A good defence, led by Theresa Thackery, contin- ually kept the Norwood team from getting good shots. Scoring for the winners were Joanne Kroekenstoel, with nine points; Liz Muller, six; and Annette Van Gils, three. The second gamne was more wide open and ended in a 42.24 victory for the Chargers over North Hastings H.S. of Belleville. The offence was led by the two centres, Liz Muller with 12 points and Kathy Muller with eight. Joanne Kroekenstoel and Terry Jacobs had seven points apiece. Liz Muller with 18 points and Joanne Kroekenstoel with 16 were the tournament's second and third top1 scorers respectively. The Senior Chargers weren't as successful as they ended up third in their tournament. Their downfall was a nairow 45-41 loss to North Hastings in the first gaine. Jennifer Van Leeuwen led the Chargers with 19 points while Julie Robertson and Bernie Hendricks each scored seven and Elsie Jacobs, six. In their second gaine, the Chargers trounced Haliburton Highlands 52-30 on 22 points by Jennifer Van Leeuwen, 12 by Julie Robertson and eight by Bernadette Hendriks. DO'C's Jennifer Van Leeuwen was top scorer for the tournament with 41 points, il more than her closest rival. *Julie Robertson was seventh, Bernadette Hendriks eighth and Elsie Jacobs nlnth.
