The outeome was a setback for the Warriors but Iater, they defeated the Lindsay Lancers 6-4 to gain a tie for first place with the Thunder Bay Twins. Photo by Bob McGrott Wlarriors are thurnped 8»2 by Barrie. but rnoved into tie for first place The Wttby Warriors were thumped 8-2 by the Barrie Flyers at Iroquois Park Arena on Sunday night. The loss was a disappointment, especially because an Orillia win over Cambridge on Saturday had left the way open for the Warriors to move into first place. Things bejan well enough with Rick Kessel scoring from Peter Vipond and Bob Hurlburt after only 32 seconds. But Barrie had a 2-I lead by the end of the first period on goals by Bob Morteith and Gary MacMillan. The roof feil in on Whitby in the second when sloppy defensive- play let them be outshot 11-5 and outscored 4-O, wîth Barrie goals by Bill Burlington, Bob Baird, Paul Regan and Phil Branston. In the third period, Barrie increased their lead to 8-1 on goals from Branston and Gary Lyte before the Warriors were finally able to score the final goal, Peter Vipond from Rick Kessel and Wayne Morrissey at 19:50. The 8 Flyer goals hurt the chances of winning the Belanger Trophy for best goals against average' in the- Senior league for Whitby's goaltending duo of Dave Hulme and Mike Ryckman. Ryckman was in goal on Sunday and stopped 2146 shots as did Ron Patterson for Barrie. The Warriors played in Lindsay on Monday right, are in Mississauga next Saturday, and are again at homne next' Sunday Feb. 13 at Iroquois Park Arena against the Lindsay Lancers. Game time 7:30 p.m. The Warriors moved into a tie for first place with Thunder Bay Twins (39 points each) in the Bellisle Division by defeating the Lindsay Lancers 6-4 in Lindsay. Brantford and Cambridge are tied in the other division with 40 points each. Warriors goals were scored by Mike Keenan, Don Pagutti, Rick Kessel, Don Pagutti, Paul Raymer and Peter Vipond. bouse League standings as of Feb. 1 SQUIRT SPARROWS - Andrew Winchester John Windover () Nolan (1) 3 Steven VS, LARKS - 3 Mathew Hilton (1), Scott Luik (1), Jaan Luik (1) WRENS - 3 Stuart Holter (2), Jeff Inrig (1) VS OWLS - 3 Blair Phillips (3) ROBINS - 6 Wayne Cornish (5), Neil Powell (1) vs. GULLS-O0 --- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - -- - - - - - - MAJOR ATOM WHITBY FIREFIGHTER - 2 Renay Collins (1), Danny Forbes (1), Shutout, Peter Bird VS.
