PAGE. 6. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23,1977, WHITBY FREE PREç Brnk1in ~ Byines Many local people turned out last Tuesday March 15 for the North Ward Community Association meeting. It was really heartening to see so much interest in our commuflity. It was a long meeting and many people were unable to stay until the end. Over eighty memnberships ($2.00 each) were sold and a good cross-section of this community joined. The very last part of the meeting was given over to electing anew executive and board of directors for the association. A motion to appoint a nominating committee and have them report to a general meeting in the near future for elections was defea-ted. Much as 1 was in agree- ment with this motion - it would have given the association time to let the cornmunity - at large know that ,elections were being held - I cannot quarrel with the choices made by the menibers at the Tuesday meeting. They do indeed represent an interesting mixture of com- rnunity opinion and have a variety of useful backgrounds thàt should benefit the organiiatiofl. See whether you agree; the new executive is as follows: Past Pres: David Denison; Pres, Bill Manning; Vice Pres, Bill Burgess; Secretary, Betty Holman; Treasurer, Rick Bagg.- The Board of Directors include Mel Hundert, Doug Akers, and Bob Alexander. More than 80 Brooklin residents attending a meeting of the-North Ward Commun- ity Association last week at St. Thomas Anglican Church to hear a presentation by Professor James Murray, planning consultant for Consolidated B uilding Cor- poration, the owner of a large tract of land around Brooklin. A number of questions about the Pinker study were raised, including what options were available between the extremes- of no growth and growth to 10,000 people., The ratepayers wanted to know if the availability of water for infilling of housing- had been adequately examin- ed, and how much it would cost Brooklin residents to hook up to sewers. The ratepayers stated that accord- ing, to the Pinker report.and their own calculations it wvould cost $3,500 per existing house, and wondered if they would be levied with sewer and water bills similar to those for homes in the serviced area of Whitby. Another question was that with services in Whitby for 40,000 to 50,000 more people, would growth to, 10,000 in Brooklin retard the growth of lower Whitby. The people wanted to know if this delay in utilizing present ser- vices would adversely affect the town's miil rate. 6 donors honored Six regular Whitby blood donors received special recog- nition, at the Blood Donor Clinic at the Legion Hall, today. Lloyd White, who started giving blood about 15 years ago, when he came to teach in Whitby, gave his Sth blood donation at Whitby's last clinic in November. The following five people have donated at least 35 units of blood: Mrs. L. Rottine, W. F. Guthrie, C. W. (Tod) Lintner, J. K. Douglas and Ralph Crawford. The present Whitby register lists only 26 donors who have given over 35 donations, two of them over 50. Wbitby has. only 3 clinics a year, 50 to attain such an achievement requires at least 12 years of faithful attendance at clinics. Congratulations to these dedi- cated people.. A special thank-you to Mrs. Rottine, the' first woman to get her 35 donation pin.
