Mr. Jones was a member of the Green Gaels during the period when the team won the Canadian Lacrosse champ- ionship seven consecutive times in the 1 960s. A resident of Whitby until he moved to Oshawa five years ago, Mr. Jones joined Whitby minor lacrosse in 1956-57 and was taught by Lloyd Gibson, the most influential lacrosse person in Whitby at that time. He played in the minor league until he was 14. At the age of 1 5, Mr. Jones joined the Green Gaels, and played forward. In 1968 he scored a record 101 goals in 24 games. In 1967-68, Mr. Jones had a particularly eventful year, playing for the Green Gaels and the Detroit Olympies, a semi-professional team. 1-e also played matches against the United States, England and Australia with the Canadian Field Lacrosse Tearn. Mr. Jones gives a lot of credit to Jim Bishop, coach and general manager of the Green Gaeis, who wvas largely responsible for the formation of a professional lacrosse league in Canada. "He is the most influential lacrosse rman in Canada today", he said. Mr. Jones was drafted by the Philadeiphiia Wings in 1975 and played for this professional team for three months before finishing the season wvth the Montreal* Quebecois. Freeé Press Photo Gerry Ravary manages Redmen . The Brooklin Rde Lacrosse Club recently appointed Gerry Ravary as its general manager for the upcomiflg season. Gerry is a familiar name to local lacrosse fans, as hie has refereed in the area for 19 years. He has refereed in four Mann Cup series (Sr. A.), several Minto Cup series (Jr. A) and also the Castrol Cup (Jr. B). He has refereed at every level including Sr. A., Jr. A and professional lacrosse, and has also been a director of the Ontario Lacrosse Association Referees Association. Mr. Ravery -played Inter- mediate lacrosse in Brooklin and Senior in Mimico in the early 1 950s. His enthusiasm, knowledge of lacrosse and familiarity with Ontario lacrosse players should make him a valuable member of the Brooklin Red me n.
