WHITBY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, MAY 4,1977, PAGE il Old Timers' hockey tournament iesplannedforfall The Whitby Flyers Old- timners Hockey Club is spon- soring a major Oldtimers Hockey Tournament to be held at Iroquois Park Arena from Monday, October 3, to Sunday, October 9. The invitational tourna- ment will consist of teams fron Ontario and Quebec with over 380 players and families coming to Whitby to help lauinch the hockey season. Oshawa Knocker Paving, Oshawa Pineridge Pools and Whitby Flyers are local teams already entered with teams from Toronto, Burlington, Cornwall and Peterborough indicating an interest. This tournament isplanned as a fun week with games, dancing, fashion show, baby sitting service ahl part of the tournamnent. The Whitby tournament offers some of the following features: 1. 3 divisions, 8 teams per 1division 2. player of garne awards 3. all star team selected each division showdown competition lucky program draw « trip for two to Hawaii for 15S days fashion show baby sitting service Teams within a 50 to 60 mile radius of Whitby wil compete from Monday to Thursday. Teams froin out- side the 60 mile radius will compete on Friday, and Saturday with the semi-finals and finals on Sunday, October 9, 1977. Each team is guaranteed a minimumi of 3 games. The winning teams in each division in addition to the trophies will win jackets. N ew bylaw regulates use of parks A wide-sweeping set of regulations governing the use of town parks, was recently passed by town council to prevent potentialv dangerous or destructive activities occurring on municipal pro perty. One section of the bylaw prohibits skating, skateboard riding, horseback riding or flying engine-operated model airpianes without a permit from the recreation director. Sports and games are ban- ned froni portions of parks that are flot designated for them, and motorcycles and rnotor bikes are banned frorn parks except on roads. Recreation Director Wayne DeVeau cited trail bikes as a major cause of damage and vandalism in town parks. He listed Blair and D'Hillier Parks and the Camp X lands as areas where this problem was most acute.
