LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Uncaring neighbors abuse p'roperty Dear Sir: We are condominumn- townhouse owners who pay our fair share of property taxes. For these taxes (whichi are as higli as those paid by single- family hoineowners) we receive the priviledge of paying for our own garbage pick-up, snlow remnoval, street lighting, street cleaning,- road repairs and sewer mainte-. nanice. Ail these services are provided to the single- family dwellings and paid for with tax nmoney. It is bad enoughi that the con- dorninium owner does not receive a fair portion of services for bis taxes but it appears that the public doesn't even feel we are entitled to enjoy the privacy of our domiain. 1 have watched children and aduits trample our shrubs, destroy our trees, dig up our lawns, break playgrouind equipment and fences as well as kili our gyrass by walking their dogs daily. Ail this con- tinues despite the erect ion of "private property-no trespassing" signs and repeated pleus ta aur neighbours. Our condoiniuitm corporation pays out a great deal of maney each month for landscaping and maintenance. Our uncaring neiglibours add to our costs each time tbey abuse our property.i Perhaps 1 should wait for the next sunny day and find the backyard with the biggest' shade tree to relax under after which 1 could set out rny lunch on the newest patio furniture in sight. The peace and quiet would be undisturbed as my kids would be climbing aIl over the neiglibours rew play equipment and. running wild througb ail their backyards. Ail this while my dog digs in a newly planted garden and relieves himnself on the lawn. Sounds good to me after ail fair is fair isn't it? Fortunately 1 won't do it because 1 respect the fact that ny neighbours' yards are "iprivate property" and they don~f even have a sign posted. While we're on the subject - it might be nice if the owner of the new higbrises in town would make an atternpt to dlean up the ugly scar he bas inflicted on the land- scape. We have been lôoking at the piles of mud and debris for over a year. If he wasn't in such a great rush ta start on the new towers he mighit find time ta grade & plant bis property and provide a piayg:t-1ind for the chul- dren sa that they didn't fi iid i t necessary 'ta invade the entire neigb- bourhood everyday.' A terrific thought just occurred to me, perhaps we shiould charge the owner rent for our play- ground since it appears that his rent paying tenants invade us at such a rate our awn children can't even find roomn to play. It seems a shame that some people are so pre- occupied with pushing their way through life that they can't afford to take time out ta think of the other guy for a change.
