In the game with Ajax where they came out on top 20-12, Paul Guest on the mound for the Whitby club registered nine strikeouts and yielded nine bits to pick up .fCe victory. The K of C's picked up twelvehits with Jeff Haley, Troy Bates, Jack Robertson, Greg Ianarilli, Ray Ryan, Gord Muschett, Darren Short, Bir Callan and Paul Guest the Whitby batters to hit safeties. At home in Peel Park the next night, the K of C's doubled the score on Cobourg in a 20-10 win withPaulGuest getting his second win in as many nights, holding the opposition to seven hits while his mates hit safely 16 times against the Cobourg hurlers. Guest made it a perfect night when he hit a grand slam homerun in the second to get the Whitby club off to an early lead. Jeff Haley and Jackie Robertson matched efforts with three hits each, Troy Bates, Gord Muschett, andPaul Guest each added a pair while Scot McGibbon Ray Ryaa, Darren Short and Greg Eillis each had singles., The victories were welcorn ed by the K of C's who had absorbed some losses earlier several by one run, an fit wil help the confidence of the young club. PEE WEEc The Legionaires journeyed to Trenton for a dbouble- f header in E.O.B.A. Pee-Weei play, and came home with aC pair of wins. In each contestv they came up with fifteend runs taking the opener 15-4 and the night-cap 15-9. Shawn Sargiison was ont the mound for the LegionairesF and he came through with aa standout pitching chore giving up only three hits ands put away ten on strikeouts. His mates jumped on the Trenton pitchers for 11 hits, and this coupled with the control problems their hurlers were having which put nine Whitby men on base on walks, was enough to give the Legionaires a comfortable cushion. Sarginson helped his own cause with a pair of doubles, Glen Campbell added two singles, Mike Laurie had a triple and single, and Tom Bronishewski, Roger Clugs- ton, Dean Van Doleweerd, Rob Harding and Chris Blanchard had singles. In the second game, the Legionaires struck early with five runs in the first inning and four in the second to go in front. They added another four in the fourth for a com- manding lead. Greg Hicks got the win yielding ten hits. Jeff Hanely and Rob Harding each with three singles led - the Whitby club at the plate. 1 Scott Rowland, Brian Hunter and Mike Laurie each had two l hits with one of Laurie's timely double,Glen Campbell added a double, while Roger Clugston added a single. The Legionaires didn't fare quite so well whe they met their namesakes, the Oshawa Legionaires at Lake- view Park in Oshawa and dropped a 16-5 decision. The Whitby Legionaires came up with some sloppy play in the field and their errors proved costly as they gave away runs to the opposition. Oshawa was on a hitting streak as they came up with 16 bitsaincluding a home run. Shawn Sarginson was tagged with the loss. Jeff Haaley, Brian Hunter and Glen Campbell each with a pair of hits led the Whitby offence. BANTAM In E.O.B.A. Bantam play, Whitby lost to Oshawa 7-2 in a game played at E.A. Fairman. Tbe game featured a brilliant pitching performance by Oshawa's Sam Ashton who struck out 19 Whitby batters and gave up only six hits andathree walks to ensure the Oshawa victory. The visitors scored three runs in the fourth and added four more in the seventh, while Whitby scored single single counters in the first and the fifth. John Samanaski, formerly of Whitby, came back to baunt some of his old Whitby team-mates as he picked up a triple, double and simgle, to lead the Oshawa attack. Greg McIsaac on thei mound for Whitby was charged with the loss. Whitby's six hits came from the bat of Tom Thornbury and GregMaclsaac each with a pair of singles and lone singles for Murray McCorkell and Dennis Fulton. p The Whitby club had little c trouble disposing of Bowman- i ville in a lop-sided25-4 contest of the kind which does neither club any good. Whitby jumped into a 5 run lead in the very first irning and added to their winning margin with runs in every inning except the third and ninth. In the first, sixth and seventh innings they got a total of fifteen runs with five tallies in each. Mike Welling got the win for Whitby giving up six hits, all singles except a lone double. He also had a good night at the plate with four singles to help his own cause. Dave Ciehanskie came through with a triple and a pair of singles. Steve Gallagher and Greg Maclsaac each added three singles, Charlie Meitner had a double and single and Murray McCorkell, Grant Leitch and Russ Jubenville each had singles. TYKE Victory over Oshawa clubs is always sweet for Whitby teams and the K of C tykes came away with a convincing 17-7 win over their motor city rivals in a contest which was never in doubt. The K of C's outhit Oshawa 18-8 and a combination of three Whitby hurlers held Oshawa to six safeties. Against Peterborough the locals were outhit 12-7 in a game which ended 7-3 in favour of the visitors. Mike Sorichetti led the Whitby hitters with three singles. John Parrott had a pair of singles, with Gary Shearer and John Heaslip adding singles. John Heaslip was charged with the loss in the game which was called when term- pers erupted and the benches cleared. In the contest with Belle- ville, played in Belleville, the Dunedins dropped a 10-7 decision, Mark MacDonald with three singles, Mark, Tutton with a double and Mike Gallagher, John Parrott and John Hieaslip with singles were the hitters. The Dunedins found friendly Iroquois Park more to their liking and got back ykes n the winning groove witn a 0-3 win over Bowmalnville. Mark MacDonald got the 'ictory, giving up five hits nd striking out an even dozen. Big Blow of the game was a homerun by Mike Gallagher with one abroad. MacDonald with a triple and single helped his own cause. John Parrott had a triple and Greg Puchalski a single. Blood clinie is July 6 Whitby will have two summer Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics this year. Wednesday July 6 there will be a clinic in the air- conditioned Legion Hall on Byron Street fron 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. People who are on holidays then, are urged to attend the clinic in cottage 7 at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital, Thursday, July 21. That clinic will run from 12 noon to 5 p.m. The goal for the two clinies is at least 400 units of blood. To be a blood donor, one must be between the ages of 18 and 25 and weigh over 110 pounds. No nedication should be taken for at least 24 hours before giving blood. Whitby has many faithful donors, who give blood in March, July and November.
