The officiai opening1 event, which includes the presentation of the Peter Perry Award to Whitby's outstanding citizen of 1976, wiil feature entertainmient by Dinahi Christie and Tomi Kneebone, who are currentlyt appearing at the Deli Theatrei in Toronto. These well-known enter- tainers wvil1 present a programn of songs, jokes and dramatic readings, July. 22 at Hleyden-1 shore Pavillon. They are no strangers to Whitby, for Dinah Christie attended the Whitby Arts Bail last Novernber and Tom Kneebone was in the Santa Claus Parade a few weeks later. Tickets are available at $12.50 per person at the Chamber of Commerce office in the Centennial Building, 416 Centre St. S., 668-4506. The evening wili begin with cocktails at 7:30 p.m., followed at 8:30 p.m. by the first part of the Dinah Christie and Tom Kneebone show. At 9 p.m. the Peter Perry Award will be presented. the carnival queen introduced and the prizes awarded for the carnival bumper sticker draw. This wili be followed by the second part ot-tace enter- tainiment, and a dmnce starting u t 10O p.mn. A buffet dinner will be served ut midnight. Nomination forrns for the Peter Perry Award are avail- able in town batiks, the Victoria and Grey Trust Company, the library, Chamibef off ice, and the Chamnber's information booth ut the Four Corners, to enable Whitby residents to nomninate somneone as out- standing citizen of the year. Since 1956, the Chainer of Commerce has been pre- senting the Peter Perry Award to an outstanding citizen of Witby, as choseii by a panel of judges. Aniy citizen of Whitby rnay nominate one or more candi- dates by completing the the nomination form and mailing it to the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce at the Centennial Building. Candidates for nominaition must be residents of the Town of Whitby, and no candidate shaîl be disqualified by reason of his office, employmient, business or association with the Chamber of Commerce. The award may be made posthumously. Nominations to 1e con- sidered must be post maîrked on or before July 1l. Mere numbers of nominations will not influence the decision of Past winners of the Peter Carnival Q ueen gets $400 Entrics are already corning ini for this year's County Town Carnival Queenl contest, to be held JuIy 17 at 7:30 p.mi. ut Iroquois Park Arena. Any girl aged 16 to' 21 who is a resident of Whitby, can enter this contest, which offers a variety of cash prizes - $400 for the Queen and $150 fo r the two princesses. A queen and two runners- up will be chosen, and the queen is officially presented at the Peter Perry Awarci dinner July 22. She also will ride in the carnival parade July 30. Bert Heaver will act as master of ceremonies for the contest, and there will be live musical entertainment.
