Uni"ted Way goal is $8600,00,O The Oshawa--Whitby United Way lias set its 1977 goal at $860,000, and will kick off itscampaign on Oct. 3. Chairman L. Blaine Boswell says that this year's goal represents an increase of eight per cent over l-ast year's objective of S795,000. Organization and planning for the campaign is well under way, although there are stili three monà~s to go. The Whitby District Council of the Boy Scouts of Canada are joining the list of United Way-assisted agencies for the first timne this year. This brings the total number of assisted agencies to 28. According to Mr. Boswell, only seven per cent of the rnoney collected goes toward operating costs, the lowest rate for aIl the larger United Way campalgnis in Canada. ]Raymond Moriyama starts work on design for library Raynmond Moriyama, the architect who designcd Whitby's new municipal building, has begun the blue- print work for the renovations of the upstairs section of thc town library. The $350,000 project will convert the upper floor for use by the library for the reference non-fiction and audio-visual departments. Chief Librarian Anne l-ope-Browfl says Mr. Moriyama's working drawings should be completcd late this somnmer, and the physical work finishcd early in 1978. The library lias uised the lower floor of the former municipal building since January 1974, and the municipal offices moved out of the upper floor in January 1977. Events
