These twu programmes apply primarily to rural properties within the Authority's. area of jurisdiction, which extends from Lake Ontario to the top of the Oak Ridges Moraine, and from the westernmost limit of the Lynde Creek watershed east to include the, Soper Creek system. Through the assistance pro- gramme, reforestation can ensure greater soil conserva- tion, reduced threat of flood, and improved water quality. Under the Reforestation As- sistance Programme, a land- owner with holdings of two acres or more purchases the seedlings from the Ministry of Natural Resources nursery and plants them at a subsid- ized rate. The Farm Treé Replacement Programme is designed prim- arily to assist rural land- owners in replacing trees af- flicted with Dutch Elm Disease. It is available to anyone with holdings of ten or more acres. Planting is done o n a s elective basis at the discretion of Authority staff with site priority being based on extensive physical i nventories. completed in 1976. Planting wil commence in the spring of 1978. Any landowner with approipriate holdings within the Author- ity's area of jurisdiction who wished to participate must apply to the Authority.
