The juniors made it by virtue of a 3-0 shut-out of Oshawa Rangers at Civic Fields on Monday, September 12 behind very steady goal- tending by Fred Frendo- Cumbo and what coach Joe Frendo-Cumbo described as,. the best defensive display of the season in which Peter 1 McTeague, Randy Jeffery and Bob Roach were excellent. Rick Borg scored ahl of his team's goals ably assisted by the rest of the offense. The first came after 25 minutes when Rick picked up a lead pass from,'Tom Hunter to beat the, Oshawa netminder at the far corner and that was the only marker of the haif. Eighteen minutes after the restart Gary Agnew set Borg up and again he made no mistake and 12 minutes later he got his hat trick when Dave Soo picked up a pass from Gary Agnew, took the bail to the bye line and cut it back across the goalmouth to his waiting team mate. This win gave them the runners-up position in the round robin play-off section and the right to play-off in the championship against Malta Falcons at Civic Fields. The bantam play-off preliminaries were in the form of a knockout comnpeti- 17 the Whitby Girls Athletic Association Novice Division completed their playoffs. The day had its problemrs with the opening game ending under protest. Whitby Weiding protested that Stu Jenkins did not play ail his players. The protest was examained undè& an executive emergency meeting and Whitby Welding deciared the winner 20-19. During the meeting the Colonels faced Midway Datsun without* a- coach and feul 7-6. Whitby's Fire Chief Ed Crouch, a former member of the Oshawa Generals, has been appointed general man- ager, and an executive will be elected shortly. Chief Crouch replaces Gary McDougall who pur- chased the club in August. When he purchased the club, Mr. McDougail was general manager, and Chief Crouch was secretary.
