The only feedback I've had from those who did visit the display, was that it came as something of a surprise ta discover the extent of the planning area. *They are flot talking about a couple of small subdivisions' - this is a totally expanded community! The artlsts' drawings are apparently quite interesting in regard ta possible new looks for our downtown area. Those of you who did flot visit the C.B.C. These will be available at Brooklln Cominunity centre on Wednesday October 5 from 1-7 p.m. Following this, in the evening there will be apublic meeting organized by the Administrative (Planning) Committee of the town. Phase Two of the Secondary Plan Study will be discussed. Don't miss this important meeting. The Beethoven Lodge No. 165 I.O.O.F. have adopted a very worthwhile projéct that wlll receive their full support. It is the Participation House Project (Durhamn Region). This projeet will be a combined "home", educational workshop, and a recreational facility for severely handicapped young adults in aur region. It will be designed ta enable the young residents ta participate in life ta the fullest extent of their ability. This is a new project that will really get underway at an opening meeting in the I.O.O.F. hall on Begot Street in Brooklin on Monday, October 3 at 8:3.*0 p.m. Regional Chairman Walter Beath will be there ta introduce guest speaker Dr. Claude Vipand of Oshawa. An interesting and informative outline of the project will be featured. Every- one interested in furthering this projeet is invited ta attend. Myrtle United Church will hold their annual Thank- Offering Service on Sunday, October 2 at 2:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Reverend Mr. Hainer of Brooklîn United Church. This year's service will have special interest in that an histarical patchwork quilt will be presentcd ta the church by a Miss Mary Howard of Toronto, whose father the Reverend Mr. Howard was the first minister at this church when it was built. The quilt is a very beautiful patchwork one that was ernbroidered with the names of area residents and was presented ta Miss Mary Howard's father in 1908. This very thoughtful and generous gift brings ta aur area not only Myrtle United Church history but community history as well. .This service and quilt presentation is open ta everyone. Special music wiIl be provided by the Brooklin United Church choir. The U.C.W. will have a fine lunch ready afier service - try ta attend. There is public ice timne on Tuesday afternoons - but people who work cannat make-that. There is also time on Friday evenings but area young people ail use this - and 1 certainly don 't begrudge themn it - there is little enough for theni in aur area as it is! I-.owever, the Sunday after- noon ice-tirne was the only tiiiie that farnilies in the area nad access ta the area. Dowe have ta travel ail the way down ta Iroquois Park for this as well? I quite realize that many activities miust be scheduled dowvn there and 1 amn quite willing ta drive down for rnast of thenm -- but - whien yau live only a few blocks from an arena and have no access nt ail ta ice time there it just seenis a little unfair! This club is well organized and well run. -,I appreciate that ice scheduling is always a problem and that there mnay be good reasons for the present arrangement. Speaking about ice scheduling - I arn very ùnhappy ta learn that there is no Sunday afternoon public skating ice-timne available this season in Brooklin.
