Sun Life Bonspiel starts November 19 MOne ot Ontarîo's pre- miier bonspiels, The Sun Life Invitational Bonspiel, gets un- der way orP Sat. Nov. 19 at the Whitby Curling Club. Sixty-four rinks will be competing, 1 6 on each of four qualifying days. (Sat. Nov. 19, Sun. Nov. Q.O, Sat. Nov. 26, Fni. Dec. 2). to earn the riglit to return on Sat. Dec. 3 for the finals. $ 12,000 total prize money will be awarded on Dec. 3 wvth $3,000 going to the winners and $1 ,200 to the runners-up. This will be the 1 1 thi year for this highly compete- tive bonspiel. An indication of the level of competition which will be seen is tlie entry of the 1976 Canadian Curling Champions, Jimo Ursel's Montreal rink whichi is en- tered on Fni. Dec. 2. MAJOR PEE WEE On Oct. 2-5 at Brooklin thc LASCO Steers scored a resoun1ding 10-0 shut-out against Peterborouglh, withi two goals each by Stuart Broll, Andre Cadieux, and Paul Neumnan,a nd one eaclî by Johin Byberg, Jeff Hlanlcy, Martin VanKessel and Jerry VAluier, Goalie Bobby Rints got the shut-out. MAJOR ATOM Oct. 23 at Brooklin, the Home Bakery team tied Bay Ridges 4-4 with goals bv Billy Kelleston (2), lDavid McWhirter and Tom Clark. Two Whitby rinks are ibonspiel Two Whitby rinks, skip- ped by Bill Legros and Ron Ennis, earned free entry into the upcoming Sun Life In- vitational Bonspiel by virtue of their three wins on Satur- day in the Whitby Ciirling Club's annual Dawn spiel. Legros, xith Ron Plummier, Dave Miller and Cliff Shepard won the 9a.mn. draw with wins over Bill Thurston of Ux- bridge, Gerry Gelette of Oshawva Golf Club and Brian Suddard of Oshawa Golf Club. Ennis earned bis bertb via wins over AI Boyle of Annan- dale, Alex Sinclair and Jack Naylor of Oshawa C.C. The Sun Life gets under- way on Sat. Nov. 19 at the Whitby Curling Club with miany of Ontario's top rinks compe ting as well as the 1977 Canadian Curling Champions.. Jim Ursel's rink trom Mon- treal. They'll all be after the first place money of $3,000 in this $ 12,000 spiel. The oublie is invited to attend one of Ontario's top spiels. On Sat. Nov. 12 The Whitby Curling Club will in- troduce a new bonspiel to this area's mixed curlers. The event will be called the Walker-Labatts Mixed Tripleý Invitational Bonspiel. Eight three-teamn entries will coin- pete for a plaque to be taken back to the winning club. This new format should prove both interesting and challen- aing to the curlers.
