One thousand copies have been printed, and publisher John Roberts says if the mar- ket is good, there will be a second edition. Already, area libraries have requested copies of the anthology and about fore publication date.. Mr. Roberts hopes to Pub- lish anthologies of works by local poets on an annual basis. List July he notified area residents through the news media that he was seeking poems for publication, and said the response was very good. "It shows me there's a great deal of talent in tis town for writing poetry," lie said. Countytown Poets con- tains works by people froîn high school to retirement age, l e t e -.. 1 WE HAIE ted the poeins and wrote the introduction to the book. Most of the poenis are quite introspective, he says, and the most commi-onthernes are family and nature. 0f the 19 poets, one is froni Osh-awa, one froîn Ajax three from Brooklin and the rest froin the Whitby area. Contributors to the book are; Margo Beath, Patricia Berghout, Kym Dakin, Graham Field, Jacqueline Field, Pat Gonsalues, John Green, Laura Howard, Lynne lng, Bob La ngmaid, George MacRae, Irene Myles, Kim Robinson, Eleanor Stevenson, Edith Hîand, Berta Hosmar, and Freda Ilolyoake. Mr. Roberts even contributed one poem hirnself. Couintytown Poets is on sale by mail order or at Plum Hollow Books, a store which Mr. Roberts lias operated in downtown Whitby since June 15. Mr. Roberts intends to stay in Whitby and is getting actively involved in town affairs. He 's a member of the of mittee and newly-elected director of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce. Ile is interested in Whitby and considers there is much history in the community that few people kno w about. 4~ John Roberts, owner of Plum HolIow Books and Rlum Hollow Press, has just published an anthology of poems by Whitby area residents. He has plans for publishing historical material about the Town of Whitby ,and is very much involved in a number of writing projects. He opened his book store in downtown Whitby ini June and lias written book reviews for the Free Press.
