Dr. Carson began practising medicine in 1852 in various Ontario cornmunities, such as Galt and Brampton, and settled down in Whitby in 1858. His name became familiar to many people through patent medicines which he invented and manufactured. It was claimed that his "Liver Tonic and Blood Purifier" was one of the most widely known remedies on the continent. For many years Dr. Carson had an office in the prestigious row houses on Byron Street North, known as "The Terrace." Dr. Carson was a man of many interests and held numerous positions of importance. In the 1870's he became coroner for Ontario County and served in that position for more than 20 years.
