Area. Approval of this plan by the Ministry of Housing is anticipated in the imnmediate future. We are now ia position to begin delivery of the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Prograro (R.R -A.P.), the sister program te the Neighbourhood Improvement Program. The Planning Department wîil be holding an information meeting on Thursday, June 8, 1978 at 7:30 p.m.- i the Meeting Hall of the Whitby Municipal building. The purpose of this meeting will be to explain the nature and the intent of the R.R.A.P. To assîst you i understanding the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance ?rogram, we are enclosing an information brochure supplied by C.m.H.C. In May he attended a training workshop for stu- dents assigned to various LACACS in the province. Hand probes revealed no problemns, says Public Works Director. Dick Kuwahara, but.,the investigators want to drill five bore holes with a power auger to see if there is any sign of methane gas a deeper levels. A high water table at the site is preventing methane gas (if there'is any) from getting through to the sur- face, said Mr. Kuwahara. Cookie sale nets $1,300 Whitby's Brownies, Guides and Rangers colected a total of $14300 'in their recent cookie sale.. The cookie blitz, in which more "han560 girls took part, resulted in the sale of aimost 10,000 boxes of cookies. The funds raised from the sale will be used to support the activities of the Girl Guide organizations, from Browmie packs to the nation- al council. Road discourages industry According to Councilior Gerrny Em\n, the condition of the "hick n Road inter- change on Highway 401 is discouraging companies fromn purchasing land in the Tbickson Road Industrial Park. Firms will n*ot locate plants in the 1,000-acre industriai park until, the interchange is reconstructed he saîd. The Ministry of Transpor- tation and Commnunications has said it wil improve the intersection within five years, but not before 1981, siad Councillor Emm, and at present it is no gooa for truck traffie, he says. Councillor Joy Thmpeon hopes increased pressure on the ministry from the town coundil might speed up the intersection's reconstruc- tion, ""but other municipali- ties are asking for the same thing so we'll probably have to wait our turn."
