At a recent meeting the council decided to forward to the Liquor Licence Board of Ontario, a number of pet- itions from, neighboring residents for and against the beer garden. one of the hotel's owners Rick Przybylski, told the council if the town does not support the application, the LLBO would not grant a permit. The town council has decided to let the LLBO have the final word on what appears to be a contentious issue. Mr. Przybylski said the downtown would be en- hanced by the renovations being undertaken at the Royal Hotel this month in the way of sandblasting and cleaning the building, but Çouncillor Tom EdIwards said the LLBO would flot grant a permit unless the hotel undertook renovations that would satisfy the fire and building departments. The fire -department bas indicated the need foi a stand pipe to which hoses could be connected.' Councillor Joy Thompson said the people of Whitby Tickets are on sale now for carnival- opening dinner aren't ready for a . beer garden other than a weekend operation in an arena, and Councillor Gerry Emm said he was concerned about Sunday consumption in open, places. Mayor Jim Gartshore reminded council that the patio was subject to a site plan agreement with the town. Petitions containing 73 and 15 names opposed to the beer garden and 27 names of downtown business people in favor of it, will be sent to the LLBO. Tickets are now on sale for the officail opening of the 1978 County Town Carnival and the presentation of the Peter Perry Award to Whitby's outstanding citizen of 1977. This year the carnival salutes the golden jubilee of the' Whitby Chamber of Commerce and the opening ceremonies will have a 1920s theme. Those attending the dinner at Heydenshore Pavilion, July 26 are en- couraged to wear 1920s costumes if they wish. The evening will begin with cocktails at 7 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by a dinner, and at 9 p.m. by the presentation of the Peter Perry Award and the intro- duction of this year's Carn- ival Queen. Dancing will start at 9:30 p.m. Tickete are $19.28 per, couple, symbolic of the founding of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce in 1928.
